LOL! You're hilarious man!
You've never actaully even seen this engine and tranny mated together, but yet you'll argue with TWO people here who have not only put them together, but have and driven the vehicle with the combo in it for a while. AND yet you'll try to tell them that THEY are wrong when they say it works fine. That sounds like either the very definition of arrogance - OR someone trolling for an argument! But then those of us who already know you, wouldn't expect anything else... :rolleyes2: |
And after this Fall/Winter it will be 3 people--the OM617 to 700R4 adapter price just dropped, so I'm doing this swap over the next few months--I'm posting on IFSJA forum since it's a Wagoneer.

I just consider the source! ForcedInduction spouts his hate and discontent on other sites as well. I just picked up an 85 300sd for the motor for my jeep, and its a driver, that said my 700r4 is way better than this rig and I have test drivin 5 different cars over the last 3 weeks looking for a suitable doner. They all drove like slugs compaired to my jeep with a wounded motor!! I hope to have the new motor in soon!

Well it is a Mercedes into a Jeep anyway..LOL |

There are several of them running around the Denver/Boulder/Longmont area and none of them drive remotely as nice as with the stock transmission or 5-speed manual.

Hi,
New here and I have done a basic search but does anyone make an adapter kit to mate the om617 to the aw4 using the jeep torque converter? I would be using an adapter to shift the aw4 instead of using the TCU. |

I would be using an adapter to shift the aw4 instead of using the TCU. That may not be exactly right, but its something very similar to that and just that simple. The details should be pretty easy to dig up online. Once you know the details it shouldn't be too hard to make a tip-tronic type "clutchless manual" shifting setup - or even a standard H pattern "clutchless manual" arrangement... |
I drove the MerJeep to work , first trip going that far(12 miles one way). Last night I flushed some seafoam through it and changed the fuel filters, the engine ran quite a bit smoother. On the way home from work, it ran rougher and was ticking. I am going to do a valve adjustment tomorrow and see if that helps. It may just need to be ran for a while, I don't know how long the car sat before I got it. All in all, i'm very happy with it so far. Thanks again to all of you for your assistance, I appreciate it.

What kind of "adapter"? The AW4 shifting is really pretty simple to control. IIRC it has 4 shift solenoids - 3 for forward gears and one for reverse. Energize solenoid 1 and it goes into 1st, de-energize solenoid 1 and energize solenoid 2 to shift into 2nd, energize 1 and 2 to get 3rd, and energize all 3 forwardd solenoids to get OD. De-energize all 3 forward solenoids and energize the reverse solenoid to shift to reverse.

What I need to find is someone who has adapters to mate the AW4 to the OM617. Anyone who knows of an adapter that is proven I would love to hear from you. Sorry for the thread drift BTW. |
