Looking good. Good to see another swap come up

dieselxj 04-05-2016 07:51 AM

yeah a new Kubota conversion. I am a little lost. is that a Kubota flywheel? with the center section filled? with the crank adapter? and then then the crank adapter on the aft side of the flywheel to take the GM flexplate?
looks good though keep the updates coming

spencxr80 04-05-2016 11:07 AM

I should have taken pictures when it was apart the adapter is actually a piece of Chevy crankshaft cut off and cut with a shoulder and pressed into the Kubota flywheel then I drilled it

spencxr80 04-05-2016 02:27 PM

Here is a picture of the whole thing put together just waiting on a new flexplate

Cool! It'll be interesting to see how the 4x4 and 700r4 work out. Should be fine. :tu:

Here is the truck and the bumper I'm building for it

Looking good! I did a similar setup with the flywheel adapter bolted to the Kubota flywheel in a Cherokee with an AW4 auto. It worked great. Don't forget to bump the timing up and stiffer gov spring while you have it out. It a lot easier now, removing all the shims from under the ip gives it @ 11deg.

Before I found out about the shims I have already pulled the front case off and advanced the pump cam one tooth witch will give me about 6deg I wish I knew about the shims it would have been way easier

spencxr80 04-10-2016 03:34 PM

The flexplate came in to mail yesterday so after I drilled the extra three hole I bolted it all together

Where are the shims located exactly?

Under the injector tubes? Do you get to them from the top cover of the pump? Sorry to hijack this thread but I read something about the shims on another thread and couldn't find it again.

Yes, remove the top cover of the pump.

Nice lookin set up. Are you building brackets or are you going with an accessory plate. I bought 2 aluminum sbc waterpump pulleys and I'm building a plate to mount everything on. Pulled my crank hub off tonight and machining it down to 1/4" flange thickness. The nut will hold the pulley and hub in place and I will either bolt or pin the pulley to keep it from spinning on the shaft.

I will probably build brackets just because i like the style more then just a plate and i will probably build them from aluminum like my first swap but i have a power steering pump this time

They are universal streetrod mounts speedway motors sells them

yellow68gto 05-02-2016 07:06 AM

What are you doing about a oil pan. Will you be completely cutting the crossmember out and gabbing a new one?

I will be cutting the whole crossmember out not because of the oil pan but because i need the room for the upper link bars the 4x4 s10 don't have one there it is further forward but i will be building an oil pan like the case tractor pan

dieselxj 05-02-2016 08:07 AM

What happened to the older s-10? I like the mounts too, just a thought though. the vertical space for the mount does not leave much room for a mount change if you don't like your mounts ride qualities. an easy fix to raise the platform on the engine side before you get to far along. you can always add spacers to a low profile mount.
I am on my 3rd set of rubber mounts, I did not build in enough room to use the ford mounts most people like. I did try a special 4cyl diesel low profile rubber mount, and what a horrible racket they made. 1st set was a mb mount, a little too soft, then the hard as rock low profile mounts, Now I am using a transmission mount, they are pretty good.
thanks for the updates, and nice pictures

I am driving the older s10 daily just needed some more cab room i thought about the room for the mounts the ones i am using i can adjust how much pressure i put on them with the bolt i have used them on big block chevy streetrods with no problem so i figured they should work for this

Fantastic build! Great fabricating skills. Nice to see another build on here. If those engine mounts turn out too stiff try 2000 Corvette hydraulic mounts. What kind of power are you expecting?

spencxr80 07-31-2016 01:26 PM

Thanks i try and do everything myself im not sure about the power still need to get the rmps up but i have already bumped the pump timing up hopefully i will be in the 100hp range

Finally got some time to work on the truck had to change the converter to a 1900-2100 stall i am up to 1500 now and the truck is working much better also had to change the throttle spring for more rpm

dieselxj 10-02-2016 08:15 PM

lookin REALLY good. WOW you went from drive shafts to finished. are you up and running? Do you have any details on your new governor spring? After my summer drive, I am in the middle of a motor swap in my jeep, and the new motor has a way stronger spring. So any details on your spring would be great. I ended up with a A$$ pile of springs (some only come in 3 packs). I am going to be running a 2" x .5" x .063dia Stainless spring, I think the rate is about 13# per inch .
I Absolutely did not need more RPM. But I am hoping the stronger spring will not let the pump defuel as quick, hoping for a bit less EGT.
