cam
Im buying a new cam for my cummins swap and want to know a good mid range cam. And without grid heater how do you guys think cold start will be around 40 degrees not plugged in
A 181/210 cam will be what you want.
Sent with a Droid RAZR in one hand and 14,000 volts in the other. |
Colt Stage 3 or a Hamilton 181/210. They are virtually the same cams
is there really any noticable difference between the colt and hamilton big sticks? how are pricing for the 2 i cant find prices, and for the optional billet retainer, is that needed? and my motor has 80k on it, if my lifters are in perfect condition do i need to worry about recrowning them? i dont want any regrets thanks for all the good help here
I wouldnt put a brand new billet cam in with used lifters. That could be a disaster in the making IMO. And if they did hurt the cam no one would warranty it
New or renowned is ok?recrowning is only like 75 bucks
When I put my Colt Big Stick in, my lifters looked just fine. I wasn't going to take the chance and reuse them though. For how much time and labor it is to pull the Cam out of an engine in a truck, I replaced my lifters with resurfaced ones.
At 40*, you should be fine without the grid heater. |
What about valve springs should I do the stiffer ones also in mind im running 3200 spring, and after doing the lifters with the homeade troff technique how do I clean all the cam surfaces with like toward the back
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- anyone know weather i should do valve springs? and my motor is 100 percent tore apart and i cant find a complete gasket kit anywhere, i went to pure diesel and alligator performance, nothin??? |
I believe Colt recommends a set of 110# springs with the stage 3. I put a set in when I did mine.
Ok the last question I got right now is fire rings? I only sled pull couple times a year, and tow my wheeler out of state from time to time so im not wide open all the time? Are fire rings needed. Ill ne running the same setup as my buddy. 50 pounds of boost, arp head studs injectors, cam, the whole nine yards? What do you guys think that have done it
