transmission help

Hello, I need help with transmission.

ford f250 6.0l diesel 2005, 127,000 miles.

I dont think hubby has ever serviced transmission. Towed our fifth wheel to southern ca last, week wrench light came on and off.
Climbing hill little struggle, not bad. Climbing hill on way back sat. 30 mph barely.
Systems check- everything ok. Since yesterday truck will not go in reverse.
I took the truck this am to tranny shop and they just called and said transmission needs to be rebuilt and that something came apart inside.

Myself being female, please help- im not totally convinced that the transmission is shot.

Feel free to email me,at farmerjoe49@gmail.com

Thanks farmgirl

not wise to post a phone number :scare2: mods??

but personally I would have to put a little trust in the tranny shop, not going into reverse is a bad thing.

I would highly recommend editing the first post and removing your number. Lots of search engines capture this info, and who knows how many other people will view it.

good luck.

I'll take the number out. I wouldn't put lucas anything in anywhere in my trans. 5R110's (if you've got an auto) require mercon SP, which has just been superceded by mercon LV. I wouldn't run anything but those in my trans. Adding lucas was probably not a great idea, but I doubt it did this damage.

The snap ring has been known to crack or break on trucks that get worked REAL hard, or abused, and losing the ability to go into reverse is the first sign of this. It will also effect direct drive.

Now can we get some more info about when it was having problems going up the hill, was it just underpowered, or was it screaming and just not moving anywhere? Sounds like there are separate issues here. I've grenaded two transmissions now (first one was just pop, the torque converter imploded on itself according to the ford tech who rebuilt it, second one died a slow death, but it was a reman and never felt right from the beginning) and both times I never got any wrenches. Wrench is a motor problem, not a trans problem. Trans issues would have caused the tow/haul light to flash on you.

hi thanks, yes it was friday afternoon and it was under power going up hill sometimes worse than others. wbat do u think if we replace solenoid

A solenoid isn't going to fix a busted trans. If you had a solenoid acting up, the trans would have been doing all sorts of funny things. Is reverse the only gear not working right now? Does the truck still drive under it's own power? You really should get a scanner on it and try pulling the trouble codes, that wrench was telling you something was wrong, we just need to find out what it was trying to tell us.

yes reverse is the only gear it will not g into and it is running on its own power.

Try hooking it up to a scanner to read codes. You've got two separate issues going on here I'm guessing.

Losing reverse sounds like a snap ring issue to me. I'm very surprised you didn't get the tow/haul light flashing.

Would like more info about the truck to help diagnose, can't do much without it...

:c:

if its a snap ring does that mean new transmission?
