NEED SERIOUS HELP

I cannot get my truck to start. I was trying to wire in some auxillary accesories (gps, radar detector, satellite radio) in my 06 dodge. I tapped in to the back of the fusebox at what I thought was the cigar lighter (on with ignition key forward, and back, like stereo). When I ran the wire inside the cab I turned the key on. Everything comes on like normal, but will not try to start, just dead when I push forward to the start. check engine light flashes. Checked the codes using the ignition key, but nothing came up. Please help, I need the truck to get to work tomorrow. I have unplugged the batteries and I'm just letting it sit.

Un hook the wire tap and see what happens

unhooked the tap without any change. Let the batteries sit for a while, with no change

I have an 06 as well, and there is a strange electical issue with them when you blow fuses, normally from a trailer short but you may have reproduced the same effect. I had to pull each and every fuse in the block. You have likely shorted another out like your ingition fuse or such. In the end I had to have that entire block replaced twice so far. The block itself has a fusable link reset in it. Mine sticks open and draws 12.8 volts all the time. Undo your tap, leave the batteries unhooked, check all your fuses, and by time you are done it should have reset if this is it.....

good luck!

You Must of blew the ignition fuse when you tapped it

would the ignition still function except for the ignition fuse?

DangerousDuramax 12-02-2007 02:02 PM

No, you will have power to everything and when you turn the key to the start position nothing will happen.

Longhorn 12-02-2007 02:05 PM

I agree...rest of your electical will function, but it wont turn the starter...

jfoose 12-02-2007 02:05 PM

guys i checked the ignition fuse and its ok, what now

DangerousDuramax 12-02-2007 02:07 PM

Sounds like the relay is not getting power. When you tapped into the block did you accidentally move a relay?

LOGANSTANFORTH 12-02-2007 02:09 PM

check the ecm fuse.....

Wheeeeww!!!!

Hey guys, it started! Thank you very much to everyone who helped. In the end I think I just really messed up it's brain. After unplugging the batteries a couple times it figured out who it was. THANK YOU!

Longhorn 12-02-2007 02:47 PM

Glad to hear buddy, thats what we are here for.....

DangerousDuramax 12-02-2007 02:49 PM

Good deal

Longhorn 12-02-2007 02:50 PM

Now....dont mess with the factory fuse box anymore lol lol. Fuse taps even though I hate em seem to work real well.....I have wired up an additional 9 cigarette lighters for all of my accessories and I have just wired direct to the batteries...

jfoose 12-02-2007 05:02 PM

Fuse taps

I just wired directly off of the battery as well. I don't think I'll ever mess with that fuse block again, it was really testing my last nerve. Again thanks for all the help!

Longhorn 12-02-2007 06:35 PM

Anytime...Glad we could offer some help!

Fuse taps in the front of the panel, work well. Playin with the back of the panel, tread very careful. It's to easy to arc things and end up with something fried. You can also buy the little cheap fuse blocks and run then right off the battery to hook accessories to.
