03 sd 6.0 wont start
I was driving down the road with no signs of trouble and my truck died. no codes. no sputtering. just died. wouldnt start back up. changed fuel filters and now it will crank all day long but wont start. no smoke. nothing.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- *bump* |
Check the oil level in the HPOP. Also need to scan it for codes anyway.
ok i may sound like an idiot but iam new to diesels in pickups what and where is the hpop? my buddy is bringing his scanner over tommorow.
HPOP is the high pressure oil pump. It pumps oil under pressure to fire the injectors. It's on top toward the front of the engine.
I will check that in the am thanks for the help. What if it is low
:humm: |
15w-40 diesel engine oil. :tu:
You'll find out more when you scan for codes to, hopefully. |
6.0 HPOP is on the back of the engine, passenger side, under or just behind the turbo. I'm not all that 6.0 savy, but I don't think a 6.0 has an HPOP res to refill, it feeds dirrectly off the LPOP. As opposed to the 7.3 usin an HPOP reservior that is maintained by the LPOP.
Are you gettin fuel to the engine? A 7.3 won't throw codes when the lift pump quits, I don't think a 6.0 will either. Disconnect a line somewhere away from electrical and crank it over, you should get a good spray. |
scanner wont link up the fuse to the dlc is good and powers scanner just wont communicate properly. I have fuel to the filter on the top of the motor and it pressures up. :argh:
FIMC/PCM possibly, if you can't communicate and you're gettin power to the scanner.
You lost something electronic. |
thats what iam thinkin:scare2::ouch:
Think you're right.
Sucks huh? |
taking it out back to shoot it!:bat:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- any more ideas :dang: |
Something is interupting the connection to the PCM/FIMC...
It could be a loose plug in a wiring harness, but I don't think PCM/FIMC failures were unheard of on 6.0's... |
just trying to check everything before spendin money on computers
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I would love to hear if big angry hillbilly or a ford tech has any input |
Updates??
I am A care taker of about 10. 04 to 08. 6.0 powerstrokes this cinda *stuf*happens to me wen im test driving them unfortunately . one time it was a injector controle module . allways check your hi presure oil pump , if that takes a dump / no fuel presure.no run Also check your injector presure controle valve. It is located to left of your oil pump . take it out look at the bottom and see if the screen is damaged. if it is ,there may be a problem with your oil pump. some times you can power it up with 12 volts and it may start. if the screen is damaged you shold change it . if low oil presure. change the hi presh oil pump also. p/s you shold have a good scanner and or the corect tools to diagonse. these engins . good luck and god bless........ rondo bondo

waiting!!!
for the big brown van to bring me a pcm. :w2:
You checked all connections to the PCM before you ordered a new one, right?
yes my buddy that has worked on a lot of these tested em
Good deal, just makin sure.
well pcm is in and a couple of squirts of starting fluid she fired right up and purred like a kitten. for fifteen minutes then inexplicably died now it wont start again :td: :dang: :argh:
Any blown fuses??
fuses
no blown fuses:ouch:
Was the PCM programmed with the correct VIN? Usually a computer replacement requires a trip to the dealer on a flatbed for reprogramming.
the pcm i got came from a junkyard and it came out of a 6.no they ran the truck before pulling it. In short no i didnt have it reprogrammed. would that make a difference
Yes possibly, but I dunno if it woulda started.
Or, it would still start, but it would run like crap. Not as 6.0 savy as I could be, but I'd get the VIN, pull the PCM and take it to a dealer, a tuner, etc... |
the dealer wants the whole truck there
That sucks... Where you located?
Olympia, washington
Well maybe there's a member near you that can help out. I'm on the wrong side of that big river.
thats def a ficm/pcm problem....possible EGR valve clogged but usually itll start and runs rough
i will pull my egr and check it out where is it?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- pulled egr cleaned it. not change |
Fuel Injector Control Module, FIMC, or the PCM needs to be reflashed.
yeah talked to dealership theyre booked. loox like i have to wait :pca1:
Can you pull codes with the new PCM?
no codes present. my bro is coming over tommorow with his snap-on modus to data stream it to check sensors:c:
The modis will let you read the engine sensors to insure you are build ICP and such, but I am still thinking the PCM is not properly programed. Even if it comes off an identical truck as yours, the strategy in it could be different. I think there are like 80 different strategies. Thats why when getting custom tunes you have to give the tuner your stategy numbers.

And if you're able to connect now, but there's no codes, and it won't start. Where as before you couldn't even connect to look for codes. I'm confident your PCM was the problem, and you just need the new one flashed by the dealer. Unfortunately, I don't think the PCM will communicate with the truck properly without the dealer flash. So scannin it with a Modis won't do you much good I don't think. Even if it is communicating, it may not be doing so accurately. |
dealer is in possesion of my truck waitin on them :w2::pca1:
