i just cleaned the fuel heater prefilter and changed the fuel filter it took care of the rough idle but it still dosent have any power.

Talked to Puddlepirate last night, he said for you to adjust the valves which really isn't a big deal. That may take care of the power problem. Does anybody know what those engines make for hp stock? I don't know if htey make the same as mine or not. You should be higher

Well we might have to tweak the pump, I don't want him to sell the truck before it gets a fair chance. Zach, it's probably not the problem, but you might want to look at your air filter too

Hey Zach...when you say it doesn't have any power, are you talking about acceleration or mid-range or top-end?

Is the tranny in good shape? You might have a problem that is preventing all the power getting to the wheels if you are having power issues when towing.

My '95 doesn't have that much power either, but remember that your unmodified pump is designed for 160 hp. It certainly won't accelerate like a gasser.

Give us a little bit more info on the problem. I'm by no means a guru, but there are alot of guys here that are and can help you out. Don't Give up on the 12 valve. It's a great truck!

The first thing to check if you get a lope, the idle drops below the specifications on the CPL plate, and your power is in the dumper, is your pump timing. This assumes you have good filters and have performed the normal fuel hose replacement that is needed every couple of years.

The 12 valves come factory with too low a torque value on the nut that secures the timing gear to the pump shaft. It lets the timing slip to the point that you will get lousy fuel economy, run rough, and have very low power.

There are some other checks that should be done on a 95. The fuel pickup hose in the tank will develop a crack approximately two thirds the way down the hose. Then when the tank is down below half it can have running problems that never occur when the tank is full. The fuel heater has a plug where the power wire is connected, that plug suffers from insulation failure that allows an air leak and will let it suck air and kill your power (unplug the lead and fill the plug with grease and then plug the connector back in, and if the problem goes away you know what it is). The P7100 pump has a check valve on the fuel return line that handles overflow back to the fuel tank. That valve wears out after about ten years and can crack the spring. That will give similar symptoms to what you describe, but it also becomes a real bitch to start after setting for a while.

These are all inexpensive fixes, just take your time and rule out the problems.
