So this sounds like what happened to my Dad's 07 5.9L work rig.

We had already went through 4 other injectors, all covered under warranty, but on the 5th injector failure the shop was backed up and couldnt work on the truck until about a week later. Again the truck is a work truck and cannot sit unless necessary, and the dealership told us to run it.

About two days before the appointment, the engine blew a hole in a piston, and the dealership finally changed all 6 injectors (like the should have after the second injector failure...) and changed the longblock assembly.

So get into the dealership as soon as possible-let the warranty take care of it, and be careful between now and then! (Of course you need the remove your programmer before going into the shop with it.)

I'd love to take it for warranty, but Dodge in it's infinite wisdom won't honor my warranty since I brought the truck from Texas to Canada, and Canada won't honor the warranty because it's from out of country.....got to love free trade!

I would try taking the #2 injector and switch it with another injector, and then see if the problem follows the injector.

Exaactly what I would do first. Swap 1+2 and see if it moves. If not, then I would think about doing a compression and leakdown test. Are you blowing any od colored smoke? White or blue?

BruceT 12-10-2008 12:26 PM

Diesel Nut,the smoke is blue, leaving me to believe its unburned fuel not blow by or heaven forbid water...as soon as I get time,(weekend) I'll swap the alleged injector to a new spot

wrench123 12-10-2008 10:24 PM

Let us know what happens Bruce!!

wildbill 12-16-2008 08:59 AM

Any updates? :pca1:

BruceT 12-16-2008 09:27 AM

not yet,I'm in discussion with Dodge about warranty issues..and why they won't cover it!

wildbill 12-16-2008 09:29 AM

Your PPE programmer and boost fooler??

BruceT 12-16-2008 09:35 AM

no ,just the fact that the truck is now in Canada and was from Texas

wildbill 12-16-2008 12:17 PM

Please keep us posted!!

wrench123 12-17-2008 10:05 PM

That is ridiculous, I don't know why is should matter...

BruceT 12-18-2008 10:08 AM

well,I spoke to Dodge US and CDN...no luck...apparently there is a NAFTA type of clause(seasonal pun) that voids warranties going in either direction,...nice!
OH well for the price I paid for the truck I guess I'll have to "eat" a repair or two...

wildbill 12-18-2008 10:44 AM

That's bull sheet. :ouch::ouch:

wrench123 12-21-2008 07:21 PM

Huh. That really sucks... I really can't think of any legitimate reason for them to do that... :booo:

BruceT 12-23-2008 11:44 AM

well finally had time to get the truck to the shop.....needed to roll Santa to get the funds....the verdict was no 2 cylinder had a bad injector it was only firing 89% of the time, and when it was misfiring it caused a fuel rail pressure issue which would cause number 3 injector to run short on fuel as well........I'm now taking donations for the save bruce's Cummins fund..(kiddin)....sucks to have to drop $1900 right before Christmas and we leave on vacation on the 30th for Disney World so I can run the Marathon there....it will have a very "special" meaning now I tell ya!

Merry Christmas to all,and thanks for the great responses to my problem......

Mods feel free to close my ticket

wrench123 12-24-2008 10:54 PM

Well, at least it's repaired...

What was the fuel rail pressure issue you were talking about?
