2007 Duramax Smokin
I've got a 2007 duramax. The truck has a programmer, K&N filter and no muffler. I have a hauling company and use my truck everyday. Latley, it's been putting out more black smoke than normal. Any advise would help?:run:

With a programmer your gonna have more smoke when your working them. I also know as weather temps go up and humidity mine smokes more. Could be just warmer weather:pca1: I'm sure someone else with a DMax will be able to help you out more than me:U:

Use your programmer to check for any codes. Just because there isn't a CEL doesn't mean there are no codes.
Have you noticed a loss in boost pressure or higher EGTs? |
Also, have you tried running your stock tune just to see what happens?
I'm going to move this into the Diesels in Distress Section for better exposure. |
What programmer is it, is it a K&N drop in filter or intake?
Check for any leaks or loose clamps on the IC boots. |
Black smoke from extra fuel, it is probably just smoking from the extra fuel being dumped in by the tuner along with putting a load on it.

he said "lately"
Maybe hes had the programmer for a while and been towing with it, but something came up. But we wont know that till he comes back:pca1: |
My trailer way's 8,000 lbs. I haul dozers, backhoes, and other equipment. My typical load weighs about 14-15000 lbs. Total wieght of about 20,000 lbs towing. I live in H TOWN and it is humid. Once the turbo spools up it seems to have less smoke. The K&N is a brop in. I drilled 1 1/4 holes on the top of the filter housing and took off the front of the filter housing to get more air flow. I was getting about 13.4 mpg towing and now I'm getting about 11.3. I've cleaned the air filter. My buddy has the same truck and everything done the same as mine and he is getting about 13.5 while he is towing. Thanks for all the input so fast.:argh:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I'm new to the site how do i get to the destress site. The programmer is a quadzilla on 70 horse. I got it last October and it was getting a little cooler. Now it is in the mid 90's and about 75+% humidity. |
probably just the weather, let us know if anything changes.
The AC-Delco filter filters better, there is also a Intake mod for the lbz's. https://www.dieselbombers.com/chevy-...irbox-mod.html and leave the AC-Delco in there. Ive been towing with my stock intake lately out in Canyon city and it rolls that coal so much i cant see the cars behind me. But i do have it on my 500+hp efi tune what part of houston |
Near the woodlands.

Some of the LBZ have EGR issues it could be that. Does it feel as if its down on power any? If you drive around a bit and are easy on the throttle the soot will build up in the exhaust. Then if you get on it it will smoke a bit more then normal. A 70 HP tune is a bit much on the LBZ with a stock tranny especially while towing.

Any Updates ?

That just means more power and burnin more fuel!! It'll be ok!! :U:

Should i change the programmer and put it to 50 horse. Also i don't know much about tranny's but my temp running loaded never gets over 200 degrees. If the tranny was working extra had would'nt the temp go up also. Just wondering. Still the same as befor, but she does lay down some serious smoke when i'm on it! Can't she anything behind me. 2500 you said to put back in the ac delco filter. Is the k&n not worth a crap. any help to get back mpg that is money in the hip pocket in my job.
|
since u have a lbz, u can do the airbox mod and leave the stock filter in there, there better, The stock set up when properly modifies of more then capable of giving the cleanest 500hp worth of air.
|
IIRC correctly the trans temp should be roughly ambient temp + 100. If you're in that range you're OK. If yours is running cooler than that's a good thing. :U:
What are you reading for boost numbers? |
if ur below 200 ur doing good, mine runs a little warmer in the city b/c of my stage IV. but when i tow, it don't even see 200
