Temp Gauge?

ok driving the truck today and randonly the coolant temp gauge decides to go past 240 degrees, i checked it agains my pulse and it was still at 188 degrees.... sooo i unpluged the sensor and it still goes to 240... wtf? do i have a short some where? its throwing a code and pissing me off cuz i dont like my dash looking like a christmas tree

is there a seperate temperature sensor for the gauge and the computer? i know a few vehicles have 2 like that. the Box might be reading off the one for the computer and the one for the gauge is flakey...... just a thought

Bump

stkdram55 07-02-2008 01:39 AM

the guage could be bad too

Stupid question here I'm sure. Are you sure the temp guage wire is plugged into the engine block. If not the sensor/terminal may be just layin on the engine block itself and readin the outside temp on it instead of coolant temps.

Sounds like a bad temp sensor. What code(s) come up?

did it throw an 0217? engine not performing corectly due to over heating? I'd say you may have a faulty sensor or a short.
