Check Engine Light And Throwing 2 Codes

my 2006 cummins all of the sudden has a check engine light this morning upon startup, I pop my hood and check all wire connections on my m3 as the manual said a bad connection could cause this, still the light was on, so i check for codes, i get P0191 and P0513. I have no clue what do twith these codes but i figured someone on here might. the truck seems to be running normal. I am going to be doing alot of drivng soon so any help would be greatly appreciated! also should i just take the m3 out completely to see if the light and codes go with it? it has been on for awhile and no problems then outa nowhere i get this. thanks guys/girls. :ouch:

p0191 fuel rail pressure circuit range/performance

p0513 is i believe invalid sim key, the anti theft device in the key..... i dono. maybe someone else can help out with that one.

Benjamin 05-12-2008 02:17 PM

from what i've read the 0191 is a common code. dodge knows about it and they don't have a fix but replacing the regulator/sensor (if under warranty) but most of the time the code pops back up on it's own. the 0513 seems to come up when someone tries to crank the truck with a key that isn't :":chipped:": for the truck's ecm.... i'd say take it in to the dealer if under warranty if not clear them out and see if they come back.

that's the opinion of a 12valver...... take it as you will...lol

so you dont think it has anything to do with the programmer? should i remove the m3 if i take it in? will they be able to find it in there and say that those codes were caused by it? you have to unhook the stock fuel rail plug and plug it in to the wiring harness for the m3 i was just wondering if maybe something there was causing the code? but then i thought if that were the case wouldnt it have shown up immediately upon installing the programmer? any advice would be great lol . the 1st code wont hurt my truck will it? or well either of them? how would one clear the codes out ? thanks:argh:

Benjamin 05-12-2008 05:31 PM

if it's under warranty i'd take it in and let them look at it.

if it were me i'd just clear the codes and see if it came back.

dieselgrl4life 05-12-2008 05:34 PM

it is under warrenty but im afraid they dont look to kindly upon bombing lol so therein lies my problem. i just wonder if i should uninstall it and then take it in, would i have to download the factory settings back to the programmer first or does the truck go stock as soon as you take it off?

wildbill 05-12-2008 05:39 PM

Yep, you'll have to return the ECM back to stock. If you don't and they flash the ECM, you'll be in a world of hurt. They'll be able to tell there was something on it via 2 codes. One from the RP sensor and the other from the MAP sensor. I can thank a tech for pointing that out to me.

dieselgrl4life 05-12-2008 05:44 PM

how do i set it back?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

there is a download on the quad website that says factory but i think that may meen factory for the m3 not the truck? how if its possible do you set the ecm back to stock?

wildbill 05-12-2008 05:50 PM

Ok it's a plug n play. All you should have to do is unplug it hook the factory harness back up.

dieselgrl4life 05-12-2008 05:52 PM

phew ok, wil that clear codes or just set me back to stock?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

thanks for the help!

Benjamin 05-12-2008 05:52 PM

you'll go back to stock unless it was a plug problem that caused the codes

Diesel Dawgs Performance 05-12-2008 06:03 PM

How long did you have the M3 on your truck before is set the codes?

slowtowpig 05-12-2008 06:14 PM

if i recall she hasnt had it on very long. will it reset if you put it back to stock and disconnect the batterys for a bit?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 05-12-2008 06:15 PM

Find somone with a Smarty and have them clear the codes.

dieselgrl4life 05-17-2008 11:26 PM

sooo boys and ladies..... I downloaded the m3 back too the factory settings the day after the codes were thrown. the check engine light was still on. i drove around like that for a few days, but not knowing what the codes were from or why my CEL was on have been kinda keeping my foot out of it. i also tried the turn the truck on an off like 10 times and nothing changed. but today i went to town to get dinner and i guess i got a little antsy and opened him up around a corner, got sideways and im amazed at how well the truck is running at this point. (the CEL was ON when i left the house, when i get to jimboys, Its gone the CEL was off!!!!) Im so confused, so i get home check for codes? NONE?? wth happened lol?? Now in HS my best friend had a trans am that had the total race motor and package in it. we got it to 180 mph and it was still going. my point to saying this is her mom drove that monster so slow and never opened it up and it almost ruined the car.the only thing that saved it was linz and I taking it out and opening it up and getting it too the high rpm it was built for. I wasnt driving it like I normally did before this actually because i was worried about the boost fooler issue. and then the codes popping up and i really started driving like a gramma lol so could the drastic change in driving could have caused the fuel rail sensor to throw the performance code? and when i finally opened it up the code went away? or am i way off?:argh:

eh sometimes problems have a way of fixin them selves....

Dr. Evil 05-18-2008 02:41 PM

Have you resolved this yet?

dieselgrl4life 05-18-2008 11:33 PM

yeah i suppose it resolved itself but i dont know how. that was what i was asking now

Diesel Dawgs Performance 05-19-2008 12:43 AM

Sometimes our trucks will throw codes and with some driving they will go away. It just happens. :humm:

Dr. Evil 05-19-2008 01:00 AM

OK - Ill close this for now. You are free to open it back up if it continues to be an issue. Let us know how it turns out.
