New on here but not new to diesels
 

I've had a couple of diesel farm tractors over the years and have worked on a few more, plus I work on a ship where I am responsible for sourcing, purchasing and managing the inventory of parts for several CAT 3412's and a couple of Nohab F312's. However, I have never owned a diesel pickup. I recently upgraded my travel trailer and find myself needing more than my current '04 5.4L F150 to tow it. Which brings me to this forum. I've been looking at several used trucks, all Chevrolet and the most recent is a 2500HD with a Duramax (LB7) and it's a bit of a fixer upper. So I am interested in finding out all I can about these rigs before I go down that road....

Duramax project trucks are fun and can last you a long time when you get it running right. I was looking at one this week with 851,000 miles on it for about $6000. Runs awesome!

:hellox: The one I was looking at has a couple issues. The main ones being a fuel leak roughly around the end of the cab (it still runs though!) and the encoder motor doesn't work. Plus it needs a few things like a rear door handle and the back bumper is beat up a bit. I'd say it'll need the brakes freshened up and the e-brake overhauled. The owner says the injectors were done a little more than a year ago. Perhaps the best part is I think I have a deal worked out to swap for my motorcycle, so that equates to about $3000! I don't need it on the road until next year so I'd have the fall and winter to get it all together. I was supposed to have another closer look at it today although it is pouring rain. So I've been reading all I can on 'Bombers about LB7's.
