looking for some info guys.. im a union sprinklerfitter and at our trainning center we built a portable fire pump trailer. we had a cat 3208 engine donated to us after we finished our initial setup the engine started giving us fits. a few diagnosis' led us to looking at the injector pump. due to our current budget we are looking to do a rebuild and such our selves, the only problem is im having a hell of a time acquiring any literature and diagrams. i know if anybody one could help it would be this site. thanks

I've been doing quite a bit of 3208 research myself. Your best bet is probably to track down a cat service manual.

TM-5-3805-260-24 Scraper Tractor: Elevating Self-Propelled 11 Cubic Yard Sectionalized and Nonsectionalized Manual
This is a military tech manual. It may be difficult to find what you need, but it should be there. The lift pump and injector pump on the 3208s dont go bad very often. |
wow, thanks guys. wasn't expecting such quick responses. the motor wont start . it turns over but does not fire. we put a new fuel solenoid on. this did not change anything. ill try the military link... thanks a ton. we are trying to get this trailer done to take around to show the importance of fire protection.:tu:

does it smoke at all when your trying to start it:humm:
|
no .. in fact it doesnt even pop when we're trying to start it.......im still trying to go through that military manual listed prior.. thanks guys

what about the fuel shut off solenoid does it have power to it if i am thinking correctly electric power to open and spring to close should be mounted on or close to the fuel pump:humm:

You can go in through the top and run the injector rack with a screwdriver, though I don't recommend this unless you are quick and know how to kill it just in case it "runs away."

Around here I've always heard the 3208 called the throw-away-Cat. When they go, just throw em away.
