All Head Light On Mod 01-02 GM pickup

7 Attachment(s)
This Mod works for All the GM pickups IIRC from the years 00-02. I know for a fact it works on 01-02 but correct me if im wrong.

The mod Allows you to have your Low Beam and High Beam headlights on at the same time only when your high beams are switched on.

Disclaimer: If you live in Texas do this mod at your own risk. It is illegal to have more than 4 lights on at one time

1.First you will need a Screw driver, 1/2 inch socket with ratchet, wire cutters/strippers, Scotchlok, Eye terminal, Zip ties, pliers, and Wire. These parts can be purchased at a local radio shack , auto zone, or wallmart if you don't have them on you.

Attachment 58952

2. Open up the hood of your Beast.

Attachment 58953

3. Use the socket wrench to remove the Bracket in the corner that is connected to the firewall and fender that is being held in place by four 1/2 inch bolts.

Attachment 58954

4. With it removed place it in a convenient place.

Attachment 58955

5. Next remove the cover for the electrical center.

Attachment 58956

6. Now look over the electrical center and look at the side facing the engine and you will notice two tabs sticking out...
Attachment 58957

Push down on the electrical center cover and slide the cover over the tabs that stick out (i used a screw driver). After you done that the Electrical cover should be able to come off by pulling straight up on it

7. Too make things easier now free up the huge bundle of wires that is attached to the fender liner by pulling on it (this may take some persuasion)

Attachment 58944 Attachment 58945

8. Next is to Pick up the electrical center and prop it open. There is 3 tabs thats are holding the center to the mount. Bend them back and Pick up the whole center and prop it open exposing the underside of it.
Attachment 58946 Attachment 58947
Attachment 58948

9. Now locate the yellow wire that is in the tan wire block, this is the wire you want to ground for your mod.

Attachment 58949

Attachment 58950

10. Use a scotchlok and attach your wire onto it. Double check and make sure it is a a solid connection.

Attachment 58951

11. Now Re-assemble everything back together wire sticking out of the bottom of the electrical center. And to make things nice and neat zip tie down the loose wire to the huge bundle of wires that goes into the fire wall.

Attachment 58941

12. Now to find a ground to connect your wire to. There are many places to connect it to on the firewall

Attachment 58942

I chose to use an eye terminal and connect it to an existing ground i have made before.

Attachment 58943

With the yellow wire grounded your headlight mod is complete. :)

Its not illegal is you don't get caught :w2: Besides it looks like just 2 huge headlights from the front http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/phot...255793_608.jpg

Fixed it..... :)

DangerousDuramax 01-26-2008 06:28 PM

Just make sure you dont go near Jersey Village. They've caught on to this little trick. Dont ask me how I know. :w2: Thats why I switched back to my DRL/FOG/LOW BEAM mod with the amber DRL's.

2500HeavyDuty 01-26-2008 06:36 PM

lol :wack: Bad DD

I really only use it on the back roads and farm roads where there is no lighting around. Ive the truck i drive at work its an 03 silverado my co worker uses it alot he likes it. Ill try and to a write up if i can but the truck is in sugarland...

DuraTitus 02-20-2010 02:29 PM

Is there a way to make the fog lights stay on with the high beams as well?

DIRTYMAX2004 02-20-2010 02:54 PM

KC makes a kit for the headlights called a quadrabeam. . . it was $40 i think and all i had to do was splice in a relay on the passenger side head light. it was very simple

you can use an electrical diode in the under hood junction box to jump the relays when the highs are on

DuraTitus 02-20-2010 09:34 PM

I know that works on the 2003 - 2006 trucks but the 01 and 02 are different and The diode thing does not work with them (I have tried it)

Any more ideas or success on the 01 and 02's ?

2500HeavyDuty 02-21-2010 12:43 AM

i dont have fogs on mine, so i never looked into it :D

im sure it aint too hard i gotta look through the wiring diagrams

cfarley0210 03-04-2010 02:14 PM

what exactually are you grounding out here? where does that wire go to that your hooking into? does this cause any kind of an extra load on the electrical system that could potentially fry my electrical system? it is a sweet idea i am just making sure it wont cook something in my system before i do it

Begle1 03-07-2010 01:28 PM

Scotchlock? Tsk tsk tsk...

hey 2500heavyduty. do you know the answer to my question on the #13 post?

2500HeavyDuty 03-08-2010 10:48 AM

your grounding out the relay for the lights so they dont switch off. i run it all the time when im out in the middle of nowhere i love it.

cfarley0210 03-08-2010 12:27 PM

ya i just did it and it did make a huge difference!!! it throws so much light out there now

firecapt870 03-09-2010 10:21 PM

Hey Danny will this work on my 03

no it wont

the 03 and up is very easy, all you need is an electrical diode to jump the relays inside the underhood junction box

You can also ground the yellow wire right at the headlight, to save the hassle of taking off the whole electric box. This picture isn't mine, I got it from this thread: Headlight All On Mod - Page 8 - Chevy and GMC Duramax Diesel Forum
Lots of info on this mod.

Has anyone with a 2001 or 2002 figured out how to make the fog lights stay on with the high beams yet?

Run a diode from the HDLP relay, 85 pin, to the FOG relay, 85 pin, in the electric box under the hood. This should keep the fogs on all the time, high and low. I'm not sure how you would do it with just the high beams, if thats what you mean.

That method only works on the 2003 and up trucks. :dang:

I still have not found any info on how to do this with the 2001-2002 Silverado's.

Any other ideas?

I haven't tried this, so I'm not positive it will work but it makes sense. If you ground the negative wire to the fogs, to the body somewhere, similar to the yellow wire that you ground on the low-beam. Then splice the power wire from the fog lights to the power wire from the low beams, this would send power to the fogs whenever there is power to the low-beams, and with the fogs always grounded, they would stay on whenever the lows are on. And if you did the hi/low mod, they would be on all the time. I think :humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Don't mind my drawing, I just drew it up real quick. But I was thinking something like this. I don't know why it wouldn't work?

Attachment 48412

DuraTitus 03-16-2010 09:10 PM

I think that would work, but you would not be able to turn the fogs off when you have the low beams on.
You would not be able to run the fog lights by themselves either...Right?

Here is how its done on the 03+ models. you use a diode

I never thought about turning them off or using them by themselves, was just thinking about having them on with the headlights. I think by leaving the fog light power wire hooked to the factory switch, and running a jumper wire with a diode from the low-beam to the fog light power, you could turn them on by themselves, without the headlights. Then the only issue would be turning them off while you have the headlights on.

Edit: Added the Yellow wire. You may be able to run a wire from the diode wire, to a switch in the cab, to have the ability to cut power to the fogs with the headlights on. This seems like its a little complicated to me, but as far as I know jumping the relays with a diode wont work on the 00-02? There may be an easier way but this is what i came up with.

that diode would burn up if you hooked it up like that, jump the signal wires with the diodes, not the full current

K, wasn't sure about that. There's gotta be an easier way to do it on the 00-02s

DieselCrawler 03-18-2010 04:41 PM

plus thats alot of wiring. lol i just did the hi low mod yeasterday and love it. even better with my silverstars in both hi and low lights

jlawles2 03-19-2010 10:30 PM

IIRC it is not a 85 o 85 jump. I would need to look under the hood of mine. I did it so that all of the lights come on at one time. It is currently disconnected as I am working on a mod that will allow me to turn them on and off with the flip of 2 switches.

Been out of town for a while and just have not had the umph to work on it lately. Other mods in progress taking up my time. (Prothane bushings, Russell brake lines, PPE Centrifugal oil filter, etc)

DuramaxDiesel02 03-20-2010 06:50 PM

pics?

SparkZ03DMAX 07-19-2010 11:50 PM

I want my DRLs to stay on with my Low Beams. I have a 2001 Chevy Dmax. Can u not just take a diode and run it from the 87 pin in the Headlight Relay to the 87 pin in the DRL Relay?

DuraTitus 07-20-2010 12:08 AM

Trust me, If it was that easy, we would not be going to all the bother of taking the fusebox apart.

Just my .02

SparkZ03DMAX 07-20-2010 01:11 AM

So which wire is the DRLs? how would u wire up a DRL/ Low Beam combination?

tnduramax05 08-12-2010 08:29 PM

:humm:i have an 05 and plan to do the jumpers with the diodes i was just wanting to make sure of what size diode to get or if it even matters

if i remember right, if you jump the 87's you can use 4001-4005 diodes from the shack

this is the mod i was planning to do should the same diodes work or should they be different

SparkZ03DMAX 05-27-2011 03:10 PM

So do the fogs still work with the Highs on? or no?
