1996 Chevy 2500 silverado turbo fuel issue

Hello, I have 1996 Chevy silverado 2500 turbo fuel issue. I replaced my fuel tank, filter, sending unit & lift pump. truck would not run when parked, then swapped out all of that mentioned above...It started up then quit, it wont start at all now, I bled the fuel filter on top of the air. Help please! what could it be? what should I I do? Do I need to replace the injector pump? can I test the injector pump? if so how?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

How would I remove the injector pump if needed to replace? I hear they are a problem child. Is sending it to be rebuilt or buying an OE new pump the better choice?

does it start and run for a while then die shortly after? or does it not start at all?

if it starts after bleeding the fuel system Im going to say you have an air leak in your fuel system somewhere

fuel

it would run for a short time then quit. it didn't start back up. I bled the fuel at the filter but still didn't start. how would I check for air leaks in fuel system ?

When it ran for a short time, was it runing fine then just 'stop', as if you turned the key off?

If it is an injector pump, it may not the the entire pump, maybe just the PMD. Which you can get a PMD relocation kit and never have to touch the pump itself. This is what I did to my 6.5 and it works great. Quick search of "6.5l PMD relocation kit" you'll find tons of stuff.

Oh, BTW. If it is truely your injector pump, it's a bitch to get out and timing it whe you put it back in takes a Tech 2 or equivalant.

I think the guy I bought it from put in a PMD relocator, it is a small box in the cab now with a small fan that plugs into the cigarette lighter. is there a spot to wire the fan under the hood so it turns on & off with the truck. I had a quote to have the injection pump removed & put back in after rebuild for $250. is that a fair price?

He put the PMD in the cab?? That's a new spot. Most (including me) put it behind the ft bumper where one of the 2 cut outs are. It gets great airflow when moving and I installed a fan on mine too, so it gets airflow when still. You can tag an 'ignition' wire anywhere under the hood so the fan comes on with the key. I used a small fan I pulled from an old power inverter, works well.

$250 for labor on the injector pump sound good as long as they can time it. Better be sure its the pump though. That can be a pricy guess. :ouch:

Can you think of anything else it could be? How can I check the fi pump to determine?

The only other thing I can think of off hand is a possible Pass Key problem. You said it's a '96, so it has one of the first gen. of Pass Key (factory kill switch). If you start it, it starts, then dies, look at the dashand see if the pass key light is on. I can't remember if that one looks like a lock with a keey or if it just says "Pass Key".

Need to look at that too, just in case.

OK,Thank you. I tried to restart it & it didn't run at all so I am thinking it is an air lock for sure.

does anyone know what it takes to swap a 6.2 diesel injector pump over on my 6.5? cuz the db4 is toast
