trans issue

i have a 03 chevy dmax and today for the first time me and a friend were driving down the road and he said mash it so he could here how it sounded with the exhaust. i put the peddle to the floor and the rpms jumped to 3500 downshifted then didnt shift again till i lifted. any ideas why it would not shift when its suposed to i bought it used with 72000 on it. is the trans slippin that bad? or somethin else

Well if I understand what happened right i would first start with the fuel filter. I dont see a programmer of any kind in your sig so i would doubt its slipping.

no codes?

tomc983 01-16-2009 10:23 AM

no codes so far and no programers in the truck is stock except for the exhaust

Then i would try changing your fuel filter. before i changed mine a while back it would wrap up to 3300 in 4th and not shift until i let out. Trans tables are based of throttle position, speed, and rpm so if your not meeting the speed for that throttle position its not going to shift.

yes change your fuel filter mine did this it was like i only had half trottle changed the filter was like new again:choochoo:

dozerboy 01-16-2009 06:08 PM

Have you changed the trans filter, should do it every 10k-15k?

tomc983 01-16-2009 06:34 PM

just got the truck about 6 monts ago wanted to get the trans servied but havent had the time

2500HeavyDuty 01-16-2009 07:53 PM

trans filter takes maybe 2 minutes to change, just finding a cheap trans filter is hard

tomc983 01-16-2009 10:22 PM

well the truck has 78000 and im not sure if the trans was flushed or not kinda thinkin bout goin that rout cause it towed a goose neck for may of those miles befo i got it

What temp was it outside when you did this? Was the trans. warmed up? The allison trans. pushes IIR 78 pounds of pressure to shift and if it is cold and the allison isn't somewhat warmed up it wont shift right either. Had this happen to me on a 2002 about 2 years ago and two nights ago with my 2003.

tomc983 01-18-2009 05:50 PM

it has been cold the past couple days so im not sure cause the trans gauge dosent move all that much anyway when its warm

LeadfootDuramax 01-18-2009 07:33 PM

Careful about "flushing" it. You can damage the tranny that way.

check out the hoot method :U:
