what causes d-max's to lock up?

My uncle is trying to sell me his 05 dmax with 150k on it for real cheap. But it doesnt run. It's locked up. What can cause this and how much will it cost to fix? anyone know?
Oh yea, he had it stacked with a banks six gun and somethin else before it quit.

so you are saying that it won't turn over at all could be a bent rod. I am not sure how you would test for that other then tearing the engine down and seeing whats wrong in it. when you turn the key do you hear a click like the starter trying to engage if not i would start there

I would look for another vehicle. Your looking at a possible engine, and that's going to run about $12,000. That's the engine plus labor to have it swapped out. Who knows what shape the transmission is in.

ya.. that thing is locked up. It's not the starter. You say the engines run about 12 grand? are they rebuildable? I have a shop and can put a motor in myself.
Somebody told me that sometimes the injectors get stuck open and fill the motor up with diesel, making it act locked up. anyone ever heard of this?

How long has it been locked up? Given that is had been stacked, I would assume it has been abused so it probably isn't going to be a cheap fix and might have other problems you don't know about. If he is willing to sell it real cheap, you could prob find a used pullout for reasonable (at least for a diesel) and swap it in. I would make sure it is a real sweet deal before going that far. Trucks are so cheap right now with high fuel pricesand poor economy that you can pick a good truck up that runs for not much more than a new motor at $12k

They can hydro lock, Had one about a week ago that lost a head gasket and hydro locked. For it to lock up, it had to be producing some symptoms before it happend, Any idea of what was going on with it?

How Cheap is real cheap? I would not pay more than $2-3000 for it... Even if you can come up with an engine for less, or rebuild that one... But if you buy it, I would just send the engine to a builder and have them build it to handle the extra power cuz then you would have something worth the money... But that is just my humble opinion... and I happen to love GM's

if it is hydro locked you can pull the glow plugs and try to squirt out the water/oil
