I know one guy had an injecter break and eat the engine these are 5.9 btw and another that had the egr? I think I am telling that right any way egr f****d up and sent #5 rod out the side of the block. The older engines didn't have any of the crap the common rsils do and the 24v and older engines have heavier parts ie crank and rods that's why they tend to last longer parts are less money too

yeah, not all 53 blocks from the old vp44 24v's are bad... I seem to have a good one... 239k miles on it and it has had a hard life. no cracks :tu:

I have however heard of some 55 blocks and storm blocks cracking as well in the same spot. it's not just the 53. but 53 has had more instances of the crack. from rumors I have heard, the block mold shifted over a bit causing a thin spot in the passenger side of the block which tends to crack.

vp44's aren't the best pumps either, but if you get to know the trucks, you can help the vp44 live a nice long life by keeping proper fuel pressure and fuel lubricity.

As far as bad engines go:
3.5L ford ecoboost,
early 6.5L GM turbo diesel
GM LT1 5.7L had a crap design for their distributor. they placed it on the front of the motor behind the waterpump, so when the water pump went out, it took the distributor out with it! not to mention in the old LT1 camaro's it was a good 8hr+ job just to change plugs and wires on those cars. wouldn't mind one in my S10 though. has a bigger engine compartment than a camaro.

8.2 V8 detroits ...... I hope they are all in the scrap yard by now. When the detroit dealer wont even work on it something is wrong.

I will disagree with the Jeep 4.0 motors ... ive owned over a dozen jeeps with 4.0s... they may tick but ive seen em tick for over 100k after they started ticking and never give any troubles.

I will disagree on the jeep 4.0's. My mother-in-law had one with 260,000 miles on it, run great. Overheated one time because the rad sprung a leak while pulling a trailer. When we puller the head off for inspection, the cylinder walls were terribly worn, and a lot of piston slap. But this thing ran great! Anyways.....

How about the Detroit Diesel 4.3L V6??

I like the 4.3 newer ones if they have'nt been changed a intake gasket set will be a must do especially if propolene glycol anti freeze (the green stuff ) has beeen added and a block seal is a must every 5 year or so and as far as bad engines
4.2 ford V6 5.4 ford although have made my fare share of money Changing spark plug threads in them Had one that I changed 3 of the in 2 weeks time (anything Chrysler in the last 2 decades is crap
Oh and I am with Cviola on them 4.0s them thing are like a timex takes a licking and keeps on ticking had a freind with one never change oil in it as it leaked like a seive had 500,000 + on it running straight 50 weight in it

Wasn't real fond of the V6 that was in the Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan we had for a while. LOVED the 2.2L turbo in my '85 Dodge Lancer, and the 2.5L turbo that was in my '89 Spirit. Was pretty impressed with the 7.2L V-10 that was in our RV, too. I don't recall ever truly hating any of the engines I've had. Maybe I've been lucky.
