some questions on the new truck
 

My dad is looking at buying a new chevy duramax and i was curious on if there is any problems with the engine or drivetrain of the truck. I own a 7.3 powerstoke and really enjoy it. my dads going to test drive one tomorrow but i dont know to much about the duramaxs. are they really reliable? he wants to use it for a plow truck in the future, and he wants to pull our 28ft trailer with out. so i need some help. thanks :tu:

I like the Duramax engine/Allison engine/trans combo. They make great power, run well, run quitely (for a diesel) and are reliable. Make sure you keep your fuel clean, and change your fluids when you should. Don't forget the radiator, brakes and power steering, too.

Only weak point I'm aware of is that the trans lines leak, usually by 50,000 miles, if not sooner. I don't know why GM can't get a reliable line, but they haven't been willing to do that yet. Yes, they're covered by the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, but not by the 100,000 mile drive train warranty. The 3 lines cost $100 altogether, and it's not too bad a job replacing them if you do mechanical work of any kind. The best thing to do is to take the lines to a shop that does hydraulics and have the rubber part of the line replaced with a removable section, so they can be replaced without removing the 2 metal ends. Of course, once you put quality hydraulic lines, they'll never leak again, which is exactly what you' wanted to start with.

All in all, the engine is great and you will NOT regret buying a Duramax.

I agree totally. Other than a few minor leaks they fixed on warranty and of course water pump issues. Those trans lines are crap especially in colder climates just get some made like Ron said and be done with it , if your planning on keeping it. As for all brands there is Lemons but I think the D-max has proved itself since 2001...

THE LMM IS BULLET PROOF AND AFTER A CRAZY AMOUNT OF RESEARCH I JUMPED SHIP FROM FORD AND HAVE NO REGRETS.THERE ARE NO DOGS IN THE DURAMAX LINE EVER CAN YOU SAY THAT ABOUT POWERSTROKES.THE FIRST DIESLE I EVER BOUGHT WAS A 94 CUMMINS WONT GO THERE.

i run the shit out of my truck, pulling, racing, ive had the dpf off since i bought it.....twins for over a year now, been a very solid truck so far!!

I have had 3 Duramax engines, so far the LMM is my favorite.

The only issue I have had with mine is the factory suspension parts that I did not replace when I lifted my truck. But under normal driving conditions they would have been fine, I was not driving normal when mine broke.

the lmm my family bought is a lemon. we bought a 09 brand new with 200 miles. the truck broke a day after, then we got it back and it broke 5 miles down the road. then they fixed it again and it broke twice on our way to flordia over christmas which screwed over our whole vacation. there something wrong with the electrical that nobody can figure out. they have brought duramax specalists and mechanics from detroit and they still cant find the problem. so overall, i liked the concept and ride of the truck. but that truck was just a lemon

My LBZ has been flawless since i bought it, tons of power, lots of fun to drive and its still stock!!:scare2:

I have had great luck with my LMM. Its going on 3 years old this year and had the dpf off since 2k miles.
