Tire monitor?
 

i am putting a 3in lift..and 33 inch tires on my 08 sierra.
and the stock tires are running like 70 psi in them. and i am not goona run that on
the new set. and i dont want the low tire pressure light to be on everyday..
so can i reset the sensor to a lower psi or anything?

I think the dealerships can do that for you. Also, you might be able to tune that tire monitor system out with EFI live. I know we just put a set of aftermarket wheels on my wifes 08 Chevy, and the light is on at all times for now.. Untill EFI is delivered to the house..:w2:

if you get new wheels you will have to transfer the sensors off the valve stems and a new set of valve stems that will accept the sensors

There are actually 2 different types of in tire sensors.. One type is on the valve stem, its a two piece setup that costs about $80 each if they are broken. And when pulling a velve stem, they almost always rip some of the bottom part of the stem off, so they become unuseable.

The other type of Tire Monitor system that GM used on some of the trucks, as a wraparound unit.. It strapped to the outer diameter of the rim. These dont break when you move them from wheel to wheel, but, it makes it where you have to run the same sized rim.


Find out which system you have by dismounting one of the tires from the stock rims, and then you can go from there with what you want to do.:U:

You can actually run any size rim you want and retain your factory sensors. Your truck should be equipped with the stem type TPMS sensor, just have whoever mounts your new tires put them in your new rims.This is a real simple procedure any tire shop should be able to handle. In the off chance you have the band type sensor, all you have to do is order the correct size strap to match your rim(18", 20",etc...)and have the tire shop mount your OE sensor with the new band clamp. You can get them at the dealer or NAPA.

The truck has the stem type sensors, and as stated above most tire shops can handle the switch. I bought another set from a junk yard for my wheels so I could keep the factory wheels in tact, just another option.

EFILive won't do TPMS, EFILive does ECM and TCM and the TPMS is in the BCM. You'll need to see the dealer or someone with a TechII.

Discount tire can adjust it for you, they did mine. You can also do it yourself by pushing some buttons on the DIC.

You can relearn the tire positions on the DIC but not adjust what air pressures you'd like to run. Only with a Tech II.

HMM... That is interesting, mine works perfect and they did not use the tech 2.
