I need some LBZ opinions, looking for first DMAX

Hey guys, it's time to go back to a one ton, my tacoma just isnt doing it for me. I am looking for a crew cab, with 8ft bed, 4wd and decent gas miliage. I was looking for a 7.3 PSD, because they last forever, and they will run on pretty much anything ( I have A LOT of heating oil, which might find its way into the tank now and then)

I don't do HEAVY towing, maybe 10K now and again, mostly cars, but I want something comfortable for the family, that will still be a good work truck and DD, I like the stock MPG of the LBZ but are there any short comings?

I need something that will last at least 200K, because i hate car shopping. I've owned ford and dodge deisles and its a little scary going somewhere where i have NO idea, and i have no idea about DMAX.

So help me out guys, thoughts, opinions, expieirience?

thanks in advance
ryan

The LBZ is a very good, refined platform. All the bugs were worked out with the LBZ and you don't have to deal with the EPA crap of the LMM ('07.5 and up). It's a very strong, good, quite runing engine. The cab is well updated with plenty of gizmoe's and gadgits, great truck. :choochoo:

My boss's '06 LBZ has 120k trouble free miles already. :tu:

yea, that's what I am seeing, i have to say, I love the old 7.3's because they are loud noisy, and will run on anything. but they are 7 years old already. I am seeing some 06 lbz motor trucks with every option for 32K which isnt too bad, its 10K more then the old ford but has a warrenty and looks much nicer inside.
And are the MPG numbers right, people are getting 20mpg out of a stock LBZ?

also are there any switch years, like late 05 and early 07 that have the lbz motor? how can you tell the difference?

8th digit of the vin number will tell you,

2 means its a lly

D means its a lbz

You can't go wrong with an LBZ. Very versatile truck in my opinion. I like the low ride height for everyday use.

That's what I like as well, I do love the Super duty's because they are big and brute like, but they are a pain in the A$$ to load, I think the super duty's look bad ass, but this isnt a contest of what looks the best its functionality. and i need a truck that i can dump 2000lbs in the bed and get it out easy, I also like the refinement of the chevy's.

THe other thing is i HATE the new fords, I had a 6.0L that blew up, the 6.4 is awful, and not waiting to see how the scorpion is going to hold up.

I am either going for an older fore 7.3 or an 06 D-max. I like the reliability of the 7.3 but To find one with the set up i want and less then 150K miles is really hard, and im still dealing with an 8 year old truck.

With an 06 Dmax, i get good MPG, reliable engine, a very plush crew cab, my 8ft bed, and can find them with 30K miles on them.

Might cost me more out right but it will be nice that for the next 70K miles i have no major work.

This is correct and to add, the LBZ was only available from '06-'07 in what's called the old body style. '07.5 is the new body style with the LMM.

I am looking for an 06 or an early 07 "classic"

to my surpise there are A LOT of them on local chevy lots, I am guessing if i go in with an idea of what i want i can get a pretty good deal. A dealership not to far from my house has 4 06's on the lot as I type this. And that is a pretty small dealership.

The more I look at the chevy, the more i like it. I like the interior so much better then then the old Super duty's. And Although the low ride height doesn't look great in my opinion i love it for work.

I think I'm gonna start poking around at some dealerships and see how hungry they really are.

I love mine 55k and no issues, only regret, getting the ext cab rather than Crew cab.

I have no complaints with mine either. I have pushed it pretty hard with no issues.
