i had an 07 crew cab 4x4 that i loved. dang econemy got the best of me and had to sell but for the most part it was a great truck. driving like your supposed to got 19 pulling a car on a trailer ( chiped of corse) got 23 empty and would blow the doors off most stock camaros, lightings, and mustangs. the guys around here hated me when i had it LOL!!! you will love it and if taken care of you should never have any trouble.

I like my LBZ, it is very reliable. I pull a 12200lb, 30 ft Copper Canyon with it frequently in the summer time. The LBZ handles it very well as compared to the 6.0 I had previously. :tu:

The 04 1/2 to 06 i have heard is the best to get. the lb7s are good they just have the 5 speed. Those have the six speed with out the exhaust crap.

BriteWhiteRam 01-11-2010 10:30 AM

01-05 have the 5-speed a1000, 06-09 have the 6-speed a1000

04.5-05 have over heating issues, 06-09 will crack pistons with very hot tunes

Hey, Ryan;

I own a 2007 GMC Sierra 2WD with an LBZ Duramax, and it's been a great truck for me. Lot's of power for towing, quick acceleration, generally smooth-shifting Allison 6-speed tranny, no mechanical problems of any kind so far (knock on wood). It's a crew cab and the back seat room is actually comparable to that of my wife's 2008 Nissan Pathfinder (for some reason she doesn't like American cars, other than trucks). I'm 6'3" and I'm as comfortable sitting in the back seat of my truck as I am in the back seat of any other car.

To be fair, it's the only diesel I've ever owned so I can't compare it to Ford or Dodge. But I like it and would have no problem buying another one.

Hope this helps.

Other Ryan

I purchased my LBZ new and have not looked back. It was rated at 360HP and 650f/lb of torque. These numbers have been proven to be very accurate. Increasing the air flow though the system with larger exhaust and intake mods makes a noticeable inprovment over the factory numbers. As stated above, make sure the 8th charactor in the VIN is a "D".

And are the MPG numbers right, people are getting 20mpg out of a stock LBZ?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

also are there any switch years, like late 05 and early 07 that have the lbz motor? how can you tell the difference?

Yes your right stock you can get around 20 mpg. Mine is modifed and im getting 25mpg hand calculated. My truck has 175,000 on it LLY 06 same motor as the LBZ just the computers are calulated differant. Now have the LBZ tune in my change computer from the dealer. Couple of my buddys have these truck and use them everday towing across country RVs. Few have 500k and some have 700k from years 02 to 07 they run everday and hard as they can never turns the truck off. But for breaks over night. You will be happier with the duramax than the powerstrokes that are getting 10 to 13 all day long and less if towing. i would stay away from the 07.5 and up there kinda a problem with the emissions the 01 to 05 have the 5 speed allison auto the 06 and up have a 6 speed allions with a maunel shift button on the column. :c:
