Power Steering Leak
My truck recently started leaking power steering fluid, It not leaking from the Pump itself or the steering box. It looks like it leaking from a line that goes to the brake booster.
Is this a common problem? Is it an easy fix? Thanks in advance. |
Yep, thats common on chebby. I've heard that running synthetic transmission fluid will fix it.
I tried the Lucas treatment, Now it seems it is leaking worse.
I will try the synthetic tranny fluid. |
When I get to the point that I need to service my power steering I'm going to swap in some TranSynd.
You will probably have a better chance with the ATF than with the lucas. i went through about 4 bottles of lucas and many power steering bottles and one day had to use ATF and it looked like it stopped, but my leak was in a different spot.
Yep, ATF swells polymers. Use synthetic ATF and it will also keep the system well lubed with a reduced friction factor. :up2:
Mobile one full synthetic :)
I'll use TranSynd because that's what I run in my tranny's. :up2:
I finally began running Royal Purple Power Steering in my Jeep because the locker in the fton end was causing me all kinds of problems. It works much better with Royal Purple. Not sure that will solve the leak though.

It's a pressure line, 'fix it in a can' is not a fix. :ph:Just replace the bad line or both, if you like, one hose is $20 the other is $30. With your truck as high as it is, it will be simple. Just remove the dr. side finder splash shield and you can access everything.
If you want to pin point the leak, start the truck and turn the wheel all the way to one direction (doesn't matter which direction) and hold it to the end. You'll see the leak.:tttt: |
