Knock

Got some issues, Knocking noise, sounds like its top end, possibly turbo, just randomly started a slight knock then all of a sudden it got worse, missfire, white smoke, still good oil pressure. The turbo still spools, the injectors arent very old, any suggestions, 2002 chevy.

hows the coolant, and the oil do they look fine? check for diesel in the oil too.

is the knock rpm related/accerlation related. what does the white smoke smell like

The oil and Coolant both seem ok, they were the first things I checked. I think the smoke smells more like oil than anything else. And Yes the knock goes along with the r.p.m of the engine.

Wouldn't be a rod or a bad lifter would it?

ArizonaRedneck 12-02-2009 02:08 PM

agree with k50 check both had a buddy throw a rod out of the blue no hot rodding no nothing chevrolet warrentied it though been a couple years since that happened but it was either 2002 or 2003 not trying to be the bad news guy just make sure you check it out thoroughly and good luck

Hey appreciate the help guys, pulled it off the trailor today only to notice the smoke actually smelled like raw fuel?

2500HeavyDuty 12-02-2009 11:42 PM

if its raw fuel then its an injector. do you have access to a scan tool that can read balence rates?

ur going to have to pull them out :td:

knock

Well, turned out it wasn't an injector, But a hole in my number 7 piston, Probably due to low lubrication, I think my old injectors are to blame,. With a computer we shut the fuel supply off to the number 7 cylinder and the smoke quit. We tore it down only to find the hole, the cylinder walls dont look all to bad. The knock, probably a fuel knock? Should I just replace the piston?

2500HeavyDuty 12-09-2009 06:00 PM

holy crap:ouch: that sucks to hear

depends on how much you want to spend on if u just want to replace one injector

How many miles on the engine?? Probably make more sense to find another engine or completely overhaul the one currently in the truck.
