Broken fuel guage
For a few years the fuel gauge on my 95 Tahoe has been broken. Does anybody have thoughts on how to go about fixing it?
check the wire at the tank and the ground back there
Ok where would the wiring and ground be on the tank?
yes on the sending unit
one test do is take the wire from sending unit ground it out turn the key on see if it goes to full if it does then sending unit does gauge work at all |
Ok and is the unit on top of the tank?
yes

How difficult is it to drop the fuel tank?
not hard just run the as low as you can make easyer just 2 straps that hole tank then you have the main and return lines and full hose take off and sending unit wire
Ok I'll have to try that. Are new sending units expensive?
79 bucks at autozone
thats what it was for mine, and to be honest i took the bed off it was easier than dropping the tank, i would do the fuel lines while your there too
Well I can't take the bed off cause its a 2 dr tahoe lol. How difficult is it to do the fuel lines?

If it's rusty it will be a pita. Both to get the sender out and to get the lines off. I've never understood why the oem's don't make a hatch in the floor above the tank in suv's and cars....Other than being cheap s.o.b.'s. If I had to replace a sender, I'd go to pmdcable.com, spend a little more and buy the metrome sender unit they have. The reading is muchore linear and accurate through the whole range on the gauge. Does away with the stupid "full forever" and then "dive for empty" after it reaches half tank.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
