chevy 6.5 fuel mileage
What are you guys getting on average for fuel mileage on your 6.5 turbos. Just curious. Thanks
I get about 14 to 15 mpg in the winter in the city. I don't drive on the highway much. In the summer I get about 16 to 17. on the highway I bet I would get 20 mpg.
welcome to diesel bombers a great place to hang out :yeah:
14-20 MPG here. 1996 silverado 2500 4x4 ext cab long bed 6.5 245,000 miles
i am getting about 18 to 21 that city and highway
with 4.10 gears i think i get better around town than on the highway because at 65mph im at 2500rpms. i would say 18-20 driving in town and 16-17 in the highway
let me clear that up i get 15 to 18 highway and 18 to 21 back roads
23 mpg highway and about 20 in the city. ive got a half ton, 2wd, with 273s outback though.
16 mpg towing a 4k lb trailer 70 mph from WI to VA..... about 19 city..... Im happy with that just a k&n filter
Wow i only get 10 not towing and in the winter. But i think i have boost issues.
Average 23, gotten as good as 27.
well Palmer you are doing good get that much mileage i have owen 5 these trucks and never get got that
Thats what everyone tells me. I find that I get 23 when driving about 110kms, seems to be where the motor likes to run and it never upshifts or downshifts on hills or climbs. If I don't run fuel conditioner or cetane boost I sure notice a difference.:rocking:

Well, for the non believers, I got 675km out of a tank on the highway and about a 100 km city driving yesterday. When I got home this morning I put in 85 litres. Thats around 24mpg.:tu:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- That was driving around 105 to 110 km/h |
I'm not a non believer if you say thats what you get I will take it at that. It's just incredibly good and you should probably sell the truck to me.
Anywhere from 13 to 18
Haha, yeah maybe I should do that. Only I've built it up to the truck I want and to do that to another one would hurt my bank account LOL
:c: |
what about y'all dually folks... what mpg are y'all gettin?
My dually gets around 15. I might be able to get better out of it I drove slower.
I see Palmer looks to be from Canada. I guess he may be using an imperial gallon which is 4.5 liters vs approx 3.8 liters for the us gallon. Just a guess.
I have a 1997 chevy express cutaway van with a 14 foot box 349683 miles i was on the weight scales today and came in at 12200 pounds loaded and im averaging 19.72 mpg
In the summer i get an average of 17-18 MPG'S mostly country driving with some large hills. All highway i get almost 20 MPG's. My engine is far from stock and i sport 3.42 gears. In the winter i get about 15 MPG'S all the time.
I get anywhere from 15 to 17 mpg. Was getting around 12 until I found out how to build the Manual Waste Gate.
Gary Berry 1997 1-Ton Dually CrewCab 4WD 6.5TD |
Well I'll be doing real good at 17-18 MPG.
i get about 15 city and up to 23 hoghway if im lucky
:rocking: |
18 to 22 .....city and highway.towing or empty.
Milage??
Geez I feel bad now... I get about 12 city with my 97 Chevy K3500 6.5L 4X4. I can get about 10lbs of boost when needed. But normally it sits around 1/2 lbs of boost at crusing speed. What else can cause low fuel milage??
I get 11-13 around town, 16-18 highway, and 9-11 towing 9000 lb. toyhauler. I did get just shy of 15 towing a Suburban on a car trailer and when I weighed it, truck, trailer, and Suburban was 15,100.
13-14 Mostly in Town with some Highway, 4:10s
94 suburban 3/4 ton high 15's to high 17's towing or not. 3.73 gears. mostly city driving. sub is one heavy vehicle too.

I guess question I'm thinking about getting a 1998 3500 6.5 diesel truck it's in pretty good condition that's a four-door 4x4 it has 187,000 miles on it. I just wonder how much it's worth it's for sale at a dealership.
Just checked after fixing exhaust leaks. Getting 19 on secondary roads (not Highway, but in the country 60-65 mph). only real upgrade is 4" Exhaust and upgraded to high flow filter from a 97. That is in a 2500 suburban 4X4 with 230,000. I can live with that. Last check with towing was 13mpg with 6000lb 28ft bunkhouse.

97 Suburban 17 around town and as high as 22 on highway if I do not push it and obviously not towing
97 K1500 4x4, extended cab, 8' bed with full ladder rack, tow package with 3.73 gears
When I first got the truck from my Dad I was getting 15 something. It is a daily driver work truck, and I almost always get low 14's in the city and driving in the burbs while loaded with tools. Recently drove it 260 miles on the highway and only got 14.7 :( However, that was making 80 mph the whole way. |
I need a little input from the experts so I came to the forums :D
With my 1994 K2500 6 Lug ViN S 6.5 turbo I'm averaging a little under 13 MPG. Everyone's saying that these diesels are getting up around 18 MPG easily but I certainly am not. Since I have a 6 Lug K2500 I have a ViN S engine so yes, I have all the emissions garbage. Still has stock intake, stock exhaust, and I have a heavy foot (turbo sounds nice). Just wondering what should be my first steps to improve on my MPG, and dont say take it easy on the throttle cuz we all know that wont happen |
