Broken valve spring or misaligned rocker arm?

kylek 12-04-2012 05:17 PM

that dont sound right to me i would here something if that was the case like knocking taping somthing like that

racer55 12-04-2012 05:27 PM

Backfiring don't sound right to me-the only way a back fire can happen is if an intake valve is open during a compression or power stroke when they should be closed.

If you can figure out another way for an intake valve to be open when it should be shut I am all ears.

A broken valve spring that has broken very close to the first coil will still hold the valve shut until speeds get to high and valve float occurs.

If a plastic rocker arm retainer broke,2 nearby rockers could interfere with each other and with how noisy these engines are it is unlikley you would hear anything-you should notice a miss though.

A stuck open EGR valve could also have a symptom like a backfire if exhaust pressure got high enough.

it sounds more like a sputter to me

i had air in the lines and just found out the filler tube poped off put it back on and now this is happening

racer55 12-04-2012 06:29 PM

A bent or cracked valve could be part of the problem?
I can't hear the noise so I can't come up with any ideas outside of what you describe the problem to be?

Filler tube as in where the fuel cap goes?

A plugged cap vent can cause lots of running problems-miss or fishbite might be 1 of them.

where dose the ground go on the filler its just dangeling

racer55 12-04-2012 08:52 PM

Ground goes to the body,it is to prevent static shocks that can ignite vapors.

ok thanks the sound im hearing is not a backfire its more like the truck is sputtering then it stops idk what it is its driveing me crazy :argh:
