Misdiagnosed repair and still wants to get paid!

I didnt know where else to post this.

I put new injectors in my truck and once i started driving it the engine would cut off at operating temp. It would start again after being cooled but would only drive the same distance. I took it to the shop. The Diesel Mechanic diagnosed the problem and said my hpop was bad. He called a few days later and said the IPR was bad too. Then he called the next day and said the high pressure oil lines coming from the hpop had bad gaskets and those also needed to be replaced. I went up to the shop today and he said the truck is still doing the same thing. I said "So the hpop wasnt bad??" He replied no. I told him i wasnt going to pay for the misdiagnosed repair. He stated i would have to but he wasnt going to "Rip me off" I got upset and left before i punched the guy. He still doesnt know what the problem is and said he is going to look into it in the morning. Ive done a little research and have found nothing on the laws pertaining to things like this. I have signed no bills or any paperwork for that matter. Does anyone know where i can find some information on this topic. Also, it was not a ford dealer.

Interesting... Without signing a quote I am not sure how they would handle this.

Good luck if this is a reputable shop they should do the right thing.

But here they can place a mechanic lien on the title and be able to resale the truck to cover repairs.

Something to keep in the back of your mind. If you have a attorney that could send a letter advising them to do right it usually gets the point across.

You can also call the better buisness bearou (bbb) to see if the shop has had complaints from other people.

It's hard to NOT pay, I mean you did get a new HPOP. This is where finding a competent mechanic plays a huge role in your repair bills and why so many 6.0 owners get so frustrated with these motors.

It's a tough call, I can see why you would be upset, but at the same time you DO have the new part on your truck, it's not like he diagnosed it for an HPOP, and didn't replace it and tried charging you for it either...

It's definitely a high pressure oil leak though, this is very common. If the HPOP was bad, it wouldn't run at all. Starting when cool and dying out when warm is definitely a high pressure oil leak... classic symptoms.

agreed he did get a new part and that should be paid for...but at the same time its a part that he didnt need/want and never approved. IMO yall should both bite the bullet. possibly you pay for the part only and hes out the labor for not diagnosing it right. or something like that
