Misdiagnosed repair and still wants to get paid!
I didnt know where else to post this.
I put new injectors in my truck and once i started driving it the engine would cut off at operating temp. It would start again after being cooled but would only drive the same distance. I took it to the shop. The Diesel Mechanic diagnosed the problem and said my hpop was bad. He called a few days later and said the IPR was bad too. Then he called the next day and said the high pressure oil lines coming from the hpop had bad gaskets and those also needed to be replaced. I went up to the shop today and he said the truck is still doing the same thing. I said "So the hpop wasnt bad??" He replied no. I told him i wasnt going to pay for the misdiagnosed repair. He stated i would have to but he wasnt going to "Rip me off" I got upset and left before i punched the guy. He still doesnt know what the problem is and said he is going to look into it in the morning. Ive done a little research and have found nothing on the laws pertaining to things like this. I have signed no bills or any paperwork for that matter. Does anyone know where i can find some information on this topic. Also, it was not a ford dealer. Interesting... Without signing a quote I am not sure how they would handle this.

Good luck if this is a reputable shop they should do the right thing.
But here they can place a mechanic lien on the title and be able to resale the truck to cover repairs. Something to keep in the back of your mind. If you have a attorney that could send a letter advising them to do right it usually gets the point across. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk |
Dealer did the same thing with me and a new ECM the truck didn't need... Wouldnt work with me besides give it to me at cost and no labor... Gee thanks

id call the state attorney generals office. they normally handle consumer issues like this. im sure they would be able to tell you some options

You can also call the better buisness bearou (bbb) to see if the shop has had complaints from other people.

If you pay by credit card, call your cc company & tell them that you ain't paying his bill
|
I still havent paid him, truck will be done this weekend and i guess the battle of the payment begins. Ill let you guys know how it all works out.

It's hard to NOT pay, I mean you did get a new HPOP. This is where finding a competent mechanic plays a huge role in your repair bills and why so many 6.0 owners get so frustrated with these motors.
It's a tough call, I can see why you would be upset, but at the same time you DO have the new part on your truck, it's not like he diagnosed it for an HPOP, and didn't replace it and tried charging you for it either... It's definitely a high pressure oil leak though, this is very common. If the HPOP was bad, it wouldn't run at all. Starting when cool and dying out when warm is definitely a high pressure oil leak... classic symptoms. |

Instead of getting upset about it your best bet is to try to work out a compromise with the guy. Better you both lose a lesser amount that way. Maybe parts at cost and split the labor, or whatever can be agreed upon along those lines.
I'm not a Ford guy, but from what I've seen a new HPOP is a fairly common repair, so can't be all bad whether you really needed it or not. |
I told him i would pay 100% of the parts but we still havent came to agreement on the labor. The truck still isnt done and im losing patience. I will never bring my truck there again. The only reason i did in the first place is he came highly recommended by everyone in the area. Turns out he isnt as good as they thought!
You shouldn't throw parts at a vehicle when the bill is over a grand. He should of took the time to pin point the problem not just take a good guess. |
I would write a check for parts at cost and maybe a fraction of what labor was since he didn't fix the problem and take your truck. We have a local diesel mech around here that thinks hes mechanic of the year but in reality hes failure of the year. I dealt with him once and never again. I wrote him a check for half of what he charged me and took my truck with another set of keys lol. Speaking of him I need my original set of keys back.

Screw that, tell him to put your old working parts back on and pay him for the problem it originaly had if he fixed it, otherwise show up at his front door and beat his ass till he gives you your truck back, he is supposed to be a mechanic, not joe blow who just throws money at it till it fixes its self. I had a buddy that a was owed money by a shop owner and he payed me $500 to show up at his shop and beat his ass every day till he paid my buddy, took 4 visits.
