if you can start with a small set up in a niche style market with very little input cost you can evently build it up. I worked for a organic squash farm for while the was contracted with HEB and they were making enough money to pay 4 hands $8hr for 40+ hrs a week plus paying the manager we also had high over head in equipment and land plus a manager and owner that didnt know anything about farming

it depends on your banks. my suggestion is to spend time and research your local markets for crops. Also look at your local land and used land equipment cost. Possible look at a lease or rent place to start. then come up with a buisness plan and a profit projection and have your local extension agent look over this and help you with it .this way you have a plan to go for a loan. Also look in to local young farmer club or in to the state farm breau assocation or FSA office. these usually offer asstiance or money gifts to help people get started

Not to doubt you or anything, but if there are any farms/ranches near you, try to get on at one and work there for a while and see if its something you really want to do. I've considered getting into farming or ranching myself but its kinda one of those things where "well, if I win the lottery then I'll do it", for me anyway. I work for farmers/ranchers every chance I get. Whether its just moving irrigation pipe, driving trucks, or whatever. I usually haul some hay every year. Its hard honest work, and an honest dollar, but not usually a very big dollar(least not where I work).

The extension agent is the guy that test your soil for ph and tell you what you need to do to improve the soil. He also can recomend what crop you might want to grow in the type of soil you have. He is provided to you by the state in which you live. Treat him or her gently. They are your best friend if you want to make a profit farming. To be a cattle farmer you need about 5 acres per animal. Plus you need to feed them in the winter. Farmers get a break on things like insurance and alot is deductable. If you want to try it grow a big garden one year and see how it and you work together.:tu:

well up here its corn all day long. i've helped my friend's grandfather on his farm a bit (for free too) i enjoy runnin the ole john deere 4020. it's something i enjoy although the first time i walked down in the barn and there was a cow RIGHT THERE and i wasn't payin attention i was a bit frightened but after workin over there i love it. i actually enjoy it. it's hard ass work but i do enjoy it a lot.

Do you know if you just don't buy one soft drink a day for $ 1.50 in a year you save $ 547.50 That is tax free savings. pay your self out of debt and then never go in to debt again. It takes time . The way we did it was to pay off the smallest bill first then start on the next one.:tu:
