Snow Removal

Well, it's almost 8 pm and I have to be getting up at 12 or 12:30 to get in my loader and help the rest of the guys with snow removal.

Its been snowing and blowing here like crazy since about 5 or 6 this morning and it hasn't quite let up yet.

Gonna get to do some drift busting with the Cummins to get out of my driveway :tu:

Does anybody else have to do snow removal this weekend, or had to so far this winter?

Red_Rattler 12-11-2010 07:57 PM

I have and love every min of it! Sow didnt start down here as soon as I wanted it to but they say 10" is possible... I'll believe it when I see it. Stay warm! :c:

GuyWithA24Valve 12-11-2010 08:15 PM

Our mechanic was busy getting the 2 JD 700Js and the D6H and D6R with #2 diesel going today! Theres so much snow that we are going to have to start using dozers on the township roads. The 143H, and the 140G with v-plows and wings just aren't cutting it

moneyman_09 12-12-2010 09:25 PM

Yea they got the motor grader going here. Plow the local airport with a cj5 and a modified snow blower on the front end think it's 6 foot wide.:rocking:

I wish someone would plow worth a damn here. :madd: If I had a truck with a plow on it the parking lot on my apartment complex would be bare asphalt.

I meant, is it a parking spot, a parking unit, a storage unit, idk, cuz around here, no ones uses that expression.

GuyWithA24Valve 12-14-2010 05:00 PM

I'm guessing he doesn't have a garage so he just has a parking pad where he parks his truck or whatever

prison 12-14-2010 05:08 PM

i would guess that thing would get a lot of looks lol now the camaro that's just wrong

i agree doing that to a canaro is just wrong but we had a 5th ave with a rotted frame and a old dodge pickup with little to no body left that was a lot truck and said hey how cool would it be to sit in a nice car like a 5th ave to plow alot of beer later i was ripping that thing down the road and plowing snow with it :tu:

GuyWithA24Valve 12-15-2010 01:06 PM

Well today is my last day of college for the semester and I'm going home for Christmas break around 3. It sounds like tomorrow I'm going to have to go out with the Cat 980G to do some snow removal for the city of Marshall. I'll try to remember my camera and snap some pics while I'm at it and post them up here.

Well couldn't find my camera. Go figure. So I took some pictures with my camera phone.

The first ones are in the Cat 980G. The loader out the window is a Cat 966C. Then the last pic is an old car dealership in town where we store our loaders in the winter so they're always right in town. And on the very edge of the last pic you can see a Cat 950 81J, that was our first brand new loader in 1979.

Unfortunately tiremann is right. I am from Lackawanna which borders the City of Buffalo and damn near four feet of snow fell on Dec. 1st - 3rd. I plow as a second job and luckily I still was on vacation from my main job. I've been plowing since 1996 when I bought my truck and that was the worst that I have ever pushed...heavy ,wet snow that started out as rain and changed over which left a layer of slush under it. My truck got stuck numerous times in which I had to dig myself free. Had to sacrifice a spare pair of jeans and a hoodie under my front tires for traction when the plow frame was jammed with snow. A friend of mine with a skid steer had to do my parent's drive way and the driveway of my priest's house at my church that I do because I could not. Try explaining to someone who has no idea how to plow and what it takes to do so that your truck cannot do their driveway because it is not a bull dozer and that the city plows have not gone down the street yet because they were getting stuck on the side streets. They removed snow with loaders and dump trucks for a week after the storm. It was crazy. Any one who thinks that plowing is easy because all you do is sit in the truck and let it do all the work has not been in one during a major storm when the snow isn't stopping, the wind is blowing so your mirrors are covered in snow, the windows are fogging up inside because the snow won't stop, your Rocky GoreTex hunting boots soak right through because you have to keep getting out of the truck to clear the side mirrors, wipers and windows because the snow won't stop so thank God you learned to wear wool socks to keep your damp feet somewhat warm so you have to turn the heater to Defrost/Floor to try to WARM up your feet but then the windows start to fog up again so you switch back to Defrost so your feet stay cool in your wet wool socks, you cannot catch up because the snow keeps falling and you have to get out and shovel a path so the truck doesn't get stuck in the huge snowdrift and you start pushing snow anywhere you can because the snow keeps falling, you plow alone so when the truck gets stuck, and yes, it does happen when you are pushing multiple feet of snow, you have to dig yourself out, and you pray that the truck doesn't break down because the snow will not stop falling and you're responsible for that job, etc....:argh:

Any plow jockey or any one that knows something about something knows exactly what I am talking about.:choochoo: But, hey that's plowing, right?
