RACE REPORT...

show up in Bradenton at DeSoto speedway after rain all morning, it eventually cleared and the track dried, we pulled the car out of the trailer, put 4 new sticker tires on it, went out and put it on the poll with a .2 second lead on the field, we get it back to the trailer, put it up on stands and set til about 8:30 when it started raining, they didnt call the damn show til almost 11:15....yeah we was pissed cause we couldnt load the car cause if for some miraculous miracle from god himself the rain stopped and they got it dried, we was gonna race, so by the time we get it loaded its almost 11:45, we leave the semi and the stacker at the track and head for applebee's, next week we are headed to New Smyrna Speedway, we will probably set on the poll or pretty close to it and we got a pretty good chance to win too, then we come back to Bradenton weekend after next to run the rain cancelled race plus the normal race. it will be nice if we win the points championship. the owner/driver is B.J. McLeod out of wachula florida with the number 78 A.A.C.S. super late model and he is self sponsored. we haul the car with a Sterling semi and we got a older Nascar stacker trailer. he buys our way into the track, buys us food and drinks at the track, and buys us dinner afterwards.

Racer9 10-21-2007 11:24 AM

Sounds like fun, and a good guy to help.

I raced in the Nascar weekly series for a couple years, it's a lot of fun. Too bad Nascar hasn't figured out how to make weather rules to gaurantee fair weather...yet!

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-21-2007 12:07 PM

yeah, it was a good weekend, the guy has no problems with spending money either, ive worked on alot of stingy race teams that wouldnt even buy you food, after you paid to get in and work for them for free.....

Mr. Miyagi 10-21-2007 07:24 PM

A Sterling with a stacker trailer.....wow.....I thought we were big time when we graduated to an enclosed triple axle Featherlite bumper pull and a F-350 dually. LMAO

Sounds cool, though.

Dan-

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-21-2007 07:49 PM

he also has a 2000 excursion with 8 inches of lift, 24's and 38 inch tires, the back is filled with subs, plus the Viper, yes, the kind with 10 cylinders, and the BIG boat and his little 300,000 dollar house.....and you couldnt tell if you met him though, they own B&L citrus and BJD excavating, plus i think a trucking company. ill get some pics of the transporter and the car. oh and if we win, here we come titty bar.....if i can get my preventative maintenance business going good enough you will see my name on the side...

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-26-2007 09:49 PM

he put another car together this week so we are heading to New Smyrna with a fresh ford motor, hopefully this one will run like hell.

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-29-2007 10:11 PM

fast in practice but got rained out.......heading back to bradenton next weekend for a double race, then the Governors Cup in December.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-18-2007 01:03 PM

hurt our brand new ford motor friday night in practice, pulled out the backup car saturday with the old chevy engine and qualified 3rd for the Governors Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway, broke the driveshaft on our belt driven oil pump on our dry sump system, didnt hurt the motor, just low oil pressure.

Mr. Miyagi 11-18-2007 04:28 PM

How'd you guys do in the double?

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-18-2007 06:25 PM

i didnt go that weekend, but BJ won the first race and got 3rd in the second one, a spring rubber moved its way down the spring and tightened the car up, and the tires didnt have enough stagger.

Mr. Miyagi 11-18-2007 06:37 PM

Cool, good runs.

What chassis are they running? These are super lates right?

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-18-2007 06:59 PM

Racecar Engineering chassis from here in lakeland, yes, they are super's. limited to 358 cubes and box stock 4150 holleys, we got to run goodyears at Smyrna and Hoosiers at Desoto. we dont have anymore races the rest of the year, speedweeks here we come, 9 straight nights of racing at New Smyrna......

Mr. Miyagi 11-18-2007 09:08 PM

Cool.....they run something similar up here, but the longest paved tracks are just 1/2 milers.

Did you switch to a Ford then back to a Chevy?

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-19-2007 05:21 AM

he has been running the chevy most of the year, only has 800 laps on it, they havent been able to get that ford right yet, dont know why, i dont do any engine work for them, the chevy is a PROGRESSIVE RACING ENGINES spec engine, they homebuilt the ford, they have had it apart 5 times, i dont know, do the guys in your area run tube frames or factory front clips????

Mr. Miyagi 11-19-2007 08:47 AM

Rules

Here are the rules for the tracks around here that run any Late Model or Late Model 'type' hot rod:

Evergreen--Whelen Super Stock (NASCAR NW Tour Cars)
http://www.evergreenspeedway.net/art...icle_168.shtml

Yakima--Super Late Model
http://www.yakimaspeedway.us/webs/3/...20late%20model

Yakima--Late Model Sportsman
http://www.yakimaspeedway.us/webs/3/...mode=sportsman

South Sound--Super Stock (NASCAR NW Tour Cars)
http://www.southsoundspeedway.com/superstockrules.htm

South Sound--Limited Lates (Late Model Sportsman)
http://www.southsoundspeedway.com/SportsmanRules.htm

As you can see the terms 'stock appearing' and 'stock type' appear a lot---dunno about you, but I sure LOVE gray areas in a rule book. :w2:

I don't race pavement anymore...dirt is just too much fun.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-19-2007 04:28 PM

i was a tech inspector 5 years at a dirt track, 35 raceway about an hour south of columbus, KC raceway is close to me back home also.

Mr. Miyagi 11-19-2007 05:49 PM

The big drawback to dirt is the clean up afterwards....having a new track every lap is kinda cool, though.

Plus 110 sideways is a bit of a rush. :U:

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-19-2007 07:38 PM

what class you race??? latemodel, modified or bombers??? bombers in southern ohio are modified frames with full tilt latemodel motors and a camaro or monte carlo body hung over it, driver sets about 18 inches back from the stock position......

Mr. Miyagi 11-20-2007 09:00 PM

Ran a modified last year and will have two modifieds and a 360 sprint car next year.

I don't own anything myself anymore---just crew on the mods and will be crew chief on the sprinter.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-21-2007 04:47 AM

until i started back with this superlate, i hadnt been to the track in several years, probably 3, just couldnt do it anymore for a long time...., its alot different now i think......

Mr. Miyagi 11-21-2007 12:01 PM

I had a hobby stock (dirt) in high school, an Enduro car (dirt and pavement) during and after high school, raced a 360 sprint in the late 90's, and a sportsman sprint from 2002-2005.....

It's just too expensive now for me to run competitive at the moment. With the yearly budgets for NSCS approaching $250,000 just to run top 20 I can't justify my own deal.....I had great sponsors, but not that great.

Last year I qualified the car at two races because the driver was late getting to the track and put it in the top 10 both times, so that's enough to let me know I've still got it for when I win the lottery. LOL

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-21-2007 08:19 PM

i never had the money to support any kind of racing effort, like most of my "want to" endeavors........

Mr. Miyagi 11-21-2007 09:01 PM

It used to be cheaper....lately it's just insane.

The hobby stock class here is a 2bbl/cast iron exhaust manifold class where people are dropping $2,000 for Brezinski intakes, exhaust manifolds, and exhaust systems....and most of the top 10 had DART blocks & heads...........for a $1000 carb to pan claim rule... :igive:

Our modified engine (436 carb'd on methanol) cost $19,000 and has cast iron heads. :igive:

The sprint car.....I don't even want to think about it right now--headaches...:igive:

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-22-2007 05:40 PM

the spec engines in the supers run about 12,500, decent engines, somebody should of manned up and bought one of those nice shiny engines.....

Mr. Miyagi 11-22-2007 06:40 PM

Are the spec engines sealed?

They're talking about sealed engines for the hobby stocks to "control costs" but IMHO it's a stupid move as if you have any trouble, you have to send it back in for repairs....and wait 10-14 days for a turnaround. :argh:

How requiring teams to purchase and additional $4,000 engine for a spare makes sense for cost control I have no...freaking...idea...:booo:

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-22-2007 09:26 PM

yes they are sealed but all the guys running in this series have more than one motor or have the money to get another one within a few days, we had the engine builder, who also owns Progressive Racing Engines, swapping valve springs on our car before the race, they are sealed but not "crazy" sealed, you can pull the covers and do some other stuff to them, just not tear them apart......

i think the track should be able to claim the engine also if they want too......

Mr. Miyagi 11-23-2007 12:33 PM

The track can claim, and reminds the racers weekly of that fact...

Problem is once you let participants get away with so much for so long, other than DQ'ing your entire field there isn't much you can do until the end of the season...

That whole money thing again....

They'll be surprised next year when there are 5 hobby stocks and 85 modifieds. Why race for $300 a night when you can spend a few bucks more and race for $1100?

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-23-2007 12:40 PM

i compleely agree, see why i got away from racing, too much crap.....

Mr. Miyagi 11-23-2007 01:16 PM

LMAO you sound like me...

I go in cycles, one month I hate it and can't wait to get away, next month I'm rummaging through my disaster of a garage trying to find my suit to run on short notice and using up vacation time to go to a race out of state.....

I would've done more last year if I wasn't so sick, but hopefully things will keep looking up and I can get this sprinter thing going strong for next season.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in..."

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-27-2007 05:16 AM

im building a pulling/drag something truck, i cant afford to race but i might be able to afford truck pulling.....

yeah but i can afford those parts alot easier than i can race car parts....and if i dont want to pull or drag anymore, all i got to do is put it back, hard to do that with a racecar.....

Very true......with my race car I just threw a cover on it and periodically pulled it off to reminisce about the good times....then sold it later for about 1/10th of what I had in it. :argh:

do with 25 other idiots in a small confined space Jenn, even bigger rush.....

Diamond3Max 11-28-2007 09:35 AM

My dad has a 97 12v single cab 4x4 for his ranch truck and I think it would be awesome to turn that truck into a pulling truck. The Initial cost wouldnt be too bad. But when it breaks, and breaks, and breaks, I would just have to get rid of it for almost nothing because I caoult afford to fix anything else.

Just thinking out loud.

you have absolutely no control of anything that is going to happen on a track, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get the wall, for the best description of what its like watch the movie "DAYS OF THUNDER", one of the best racing movies made.....

Hell sometimes I'd use the wall for better lap times. lol

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-29-2007 07:59 PM
