Warning light thresholds...

Tell me where you would like to see a "warning" light on a gauge set up...

Pyro...
Boost...
Tranny temp...
Oil temp...
Water temp...
Fuel pressure...
Oil pressure...
Exhaust back pressure...
Diff temp...
Volt reading...

Let me know what you think... got something coming I think...

Excuse the crappy cell pic... Ran over my camera...

CSIPSD 07-13-2010 03:24 PM

wow guys... dont read the general diesel section much do you... Maybe down here I can get one response...

Dr. Evil 07-13-2010 04:48 PM

I would like to see the guage flash (probably not the best idea for daytime driving) or have a small LED inside the guage flash once a setpoint is reached. Particularily important on tranny temp, fuel press, EGT, maybe differential temp?

What do you think about the LED ?

Pyro...>1300* for more than 5 seconds
Boost...5 PSI AFTER it is pegged out
Tranny temp...235*
Oil temp...???
Water temp...230*
Fuel pressure...depends on the truck, for a 12v i would say 30psi, a 24v i would say 10psi i dono what the other brands require
Oil pressure...25psi
Exhaust back pressure...if this could be used in conjunction with a boost gauge i would love to see both gauges flash once a 1:1 ratio is exceeded...
Diff temp...???
Volt reading...<11.5vdc for more than 30 seconds

Let me know what you think... got something coming I think...

these are my thoughts, send me any samples..... they will look good in the corner of my sons room with all my other crap i need to install on my truck to get it running again...

DieselCrawler 07-13-2010 06:23 PM

above sounds good cept oil psi level. on the failsafes i have at work on the waterpumps that run 24/7 i set the low oil pressure shutoff at 10 psi and coolant level to 230*. when these are reached the engine shuts down.

Dr. Evil 07-13-2010 08:07 PM

Would like to also see a low oil pressure shutdwn. Which, now that I think about it - I believe Isspro already offers this.

They have a turbo timer... I am sure this could be changed to something else, but I dont know how safe that would be...

Going down the road at 70 mph and loose oil pressure... I would hope it would stay running long enough to shut down safely... LOL

Dr. Evil 07-13-2010 10:18 PM

No it would only work at startup. If it doesnt see oil pressure in a certain amount of time then it shuts the engine down.

"R4020 Engine Shutdown/Protection Kit for use in mobile applications (trucking, automotive).
Solid state engine protection module with 20A(NO) or 10A(NC) contacts to handle heavy switch loads. The kit
includes a 12 VDC NG R4022 shutdown module (15 second delay for engine starting and 30 second delay before
shutdown after alarm), low coolant probe, low oil pressure switch (7-9 PSI), high engine temperature switch
(225°F), warning light and buzzer. Contact ISSPRO, INC. for isolated coolant level probe. For 24 volt order
R4020-24VDC."

Oil pressure warning or shut down must be rev. related, otherwise you would get a constant warning during idle or stop and go. Think of an engine shut down in such a situation...

oil temperature maximum being allowed in a sump is 145°C or 293°F- but this maximum value is only valid for real synthetic oils.
I wouldn't allow it to go that high. It should stay within +/-10° degrees to the coolant under normal loads. Bigger differences indicate an unbalanced thermal engine. Could be easy displayed with an comperator.

Pyro... something not too distracting like yellow on solid above 1150, red flashing at 1300
Boost... Probably 40 psi
Tranny temp... no idea
Oil temp... no idea
Water temp... Yelllow above 190, red at 205 or something, indicating fan isn't working
Fuel pressure... depends on the rig i guess
Oil pressure... no idea, but there's probably a set number for this
Exhaust back pressure... no idea
Diff temp... no idea
Volt reading... I like the idea above of it only coming on if its under a set voltage for a period of time, so you don't have a warning light everytime the bassline hits. I'd say if it drops below 13.3 or so and stays there. At 12 your running off batteries

EGT Warning light Prototype... using the Peak recall function.

Coolant...

Deezel Stink3r 07-22-2010 04:16 AM

I just wanted to give you an idea of what can happen during high intense sunlight. You won't be able to recognize the warning light quick enough.
We use those so called son-alerts to provide quick attention to really dangerous conditions.
These are sounders with a constant or intermittent 1khz tone.
You can mount them anywhere you want to.
I scanned two of them to show you. Excuse the crappy pics!
The olive unit is a older style 2" diameter and length unit. The small one is 1"
You can mount them wherever you want and they have a really ear-penetrating sound which makes them useful even while listening to loud music.
They operate between 6 and 24V and consume about 20mA when beeping, so you can connect them parrallel with every warning light with ease and without destroying any sensitive circuit(and thats what they are made for).

Update...

Got some updated prototypes Friday... Been playing with them and a new data logging set up that is slick as hell. Soon as I get the ok I will post up some screen shots of it as well...

Really nothing like this on the market right now!!! (data logging)

Hey CSIPSD, you were telling me about the new Isspro gauges in the chat the other day. If I got rid of my Autometer electric fuel pressure gauge would i still be able to use the same sending unit? Or would I have to get one that works with the Isspro gauge?

I would bet you would need a new sending unit, as I doubt the Autometers and Isspros have the same maping for the sensor reading.

Is that color coded EV2 pyrometer out yet? And do the electric fuel pressure gauges come with the sending unit or don't they have an electric fuel pressure gauge? I'm seriously considering getting some Isspro gauges

EV2 and Performax are all electric gauges... Senders come with the gauges.

Yes, they have the color coded EGT gauges.

A few pictures of the equitment, later today I will get some data logging and post up some screen shots.

http://inlinethumb20.webshots.com/44...600x600Q85.jpg

This is a shot of both the data stream device and the thumb drive it records on. Keep in mind the data stream device has a prototype cover on it.

http://inlinethumb63.webshots.com/39...600x600Q85.jpg

Here the thumb drive USB port is retracted, which is pretty cool. Also you can see the start button on the Data Stream device.

When you want to start recording, the thumb drive must be plugged into the streaming device, and the data stream device needs to be plugged into one of the gauge connectors (or add a tee off of your gauge lines). Press the button, and it starts recording. Done with your run, press the button again and it is saved as a file on the thumb drive. You do not have to run to the computer to remove that file, you can do several runs (I would bet 30-40 runs before the thumb drive would be full) and then at the end of the day go to the computer and look things over.

Arent ISSPRO gauges CRAZY expensive though?? :humm:

CSIPSD 01-30-2011 01:28 PM

Should be less then $200 bucks for a EV2 Pyro with the warning lights...

Thats about in line with most other gauges offering much less.

They look good and work good. Worth the money to me. They even look classy. Keep up the good work CSIPD. Gonna be at any of the upcoming NW diesel events?
