Army guys? Thinkin about doing it!

Im gonna go talk to a recruiter tomorrow about joining the army. Just wanted to see what you all do in it to give me some ideas of what i wanna do. Im thinking i wanna go through R.a.s.p ranger training to maybe get stationed where my buddy is. Or wheeled mechanic or sniper. Anything helps! Thanks guys.

don't believe a word out of the recruiter's mouth.

I'd have to agree with FastCR on this one. But if you decide to join, GODSPEED and thank you. That being said, I seriously doubt you'd get placed in the same place as your buddy..

I've talked to recruiters and a lot of young veterans in school, the consensus is to not believe anything recruiters say. :lol88:

In particular, it seems like they tell everybody that they'll be special forces/ rangers/ force recon/ whatever, or work with Catherine Bell in JAG, or be stationed the entire time in Hawai'i, or have a full scholarship to USC after they get out.

Doesn't mean that it's a bad deal, but they seem to promise the world. I don't think that most guys going in have any idea what they want to do anyways; I think that there are a lot more wannabe SEALs and snipers before basic than after.

Good luck to you and thank you if you do.

have a nephew and son in law promised things they never recieved but both still in nephews in afghan and son in law is stationed in lemoore california so if you do decide to join good luck and thankyou but as the rest said do it with an open mind and know that you will be in the service to one of the greatest nations in the world :yeah:

Recruiters will tell you what they need to in order to get you to sign the papers.. make sure they can guarantee you the school/training you want in writing prior to signing all the papers. its the same with all of the branches of service. There are some decent recruiters from time time I know I had one that never lied to me about what i was getting into. Good Luck and if you join stay safe and thank you for even considering serving our country.

sniper school is hard as hell to get into. ranger school you gotta be a PT stud. mechanic all you have to know is how to write your name.

Well.. I can't speak for the army, but I'm active duty in the marines right now.. and they are pretty much right on with what they are sayin.. don't believe everything those guys tell you - if you don't see it in PAPERWORK (i.e. your contract), then you aint getting it. As far as getting stationed with your buddy.. they can promise you up and down, but it's complete BS. 1 word of advice - nothing is 100% in the military UNTIL IT ACTUALLY HAPPENS. Any other service members care to comment?

One word of advice to you, I know people that were told they could be a welder or comms and others, so they signed the papers. When they took the ASVAB test they didn't score high enough for the position they wanted, and got thrown into another one. My two cents, take the test before you sign anything. I took it when I was 17 and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I ended up in college. If you want to do it take the test, make sure you qualify for what you want to do, then sign the papers. Those in the services, I thank you greatly
