Scam? I am thinking so....

So I see a 2006 Crew cab short bed Duramax on Craigslist in Orlando for 7900 bucks with 52K on the clock, so I'm thinking wow, someone needs to get out from under a payment bad and I was going to pay cash...This is what I get when I email the seller...I am going too see how far I can take this...

Hi, The truck is still for sale. My 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4 Crew Cab LT 6.6L V8 FI Diesel is in great shape,no engine problems, damages or hidden defects. Hasn't been involved in any accident. It was always garaged and never kept outside. I`m a single mother with 2 children because I divorced with my husband and after the divorce I owned this truck, I don`t need it and that`s why I`m selling it so cheap. The truck has a clear title, no liens. Transmission is Automatic and has 52,176 miles. The total price is $7,900 including shipping and handling. I recently was promoted and had to move to Bangor, Maine and from here the truck will be shipped. It is very important for me to know if you have all the money to buy it or you need to get a loan for it. We will use eBay protection program for our safety and for payment I prefer to use an eBay safety Bank account. You have 7 days to inspect the truck and I get the money after you make sure everything is ok and decide to keep it. If you don't like the truck and want to return it, I will arrange to ship it back (on my costs) and you will be 100% refunded by ebay. I'm sure you will love the truck and don't want to return it but it's good to know that you have this option available. I just need your full name and address so I can open a case. You must know that eBay will contact you without any obligatiaon to buy it or fees.

Have a nice day!
Jane

I say so she could get that in a minute at any car lot, but get the address and phone number and tell her you have a friend in town come by to check it out for you.

If she gives you that, I'll go see what the deal is for you.

Whit 12-16-2009 08:44 AM

offer to fly there and pick it up and pay certified check..........if she has problems with that then run

ArizonaRedneck 12-16-2009 09:00 AM

sounds to good to be true but you never know especially if the new divorcee is really really pissed probably invite the x over to watch you drive off in his rig

mishkaya 12-16-2009 09:05 AM

I am willing to bet it is a scam. I have seen these before, and most likely if you search Craigslist, you will find this same ad posted in a dozen different towns... :humm:

Whit 12-16-2009 09:09 AM

I had one similar to this and only 200 miles away......and it was a damsel in distress divorced and all just trying to liquidate...............I e-mailed and wanted to see it that afternoon and she said only if I do paypay first :td:

ArizonaRedneck 12-16-2009 09:46 AM

wow that really sucks

12vcummins96 12-16-2009 09:56 AM

oh its a scam alright found it in houstns craigslist :dang:

BigDiesel359 12-16-2009 12:11 PM

The best way to do these are like what Whit said, offer to fly there and see it person with a certified check. Or tell them you have a brother, friend in the area to look at it. There are some people that just want to get rid of their stuff and if you ignore everything, you will lose out on a legitimately good deal at some point, you just have to keep your wits about you.

2500HeavyDuty 12-16-2009 12:16 PM

damn that would be one heck of a deal too

Scam. Found one like that a few months ago concerning a John Deere 4300 tractor with 200 hrs. Had front end loader, back-hoe and every conceivable attachment thrown in on the mix. $4500.00 (should have been closer to $30,000) and that included shipping and handling(?:humm:), full refund if not satisfied, yada, yada, yada, paypal, yada, yada, yada. All the way over in Oregon. I contacted them. They said they were 2 women that had it on a horse ranch and downsizing the ranch or something like that. I asked for their address cause I already had the trailer hooked to the truck and $4500.00 cash in my pocket and would be there in 2 1/2 days! Never heard from them again.:tttt:

Everything was good till this part. Now it's very easy to tell it's a scam.

"$7900 includes shipping and handleing"- normal people don't talk this way. Shipping a vehicle is expensive and a lot of work.

"Bangor, Maine and from here the truck will be shipped"- Why ship it in the move, then ship it from there.

"We will use eBay protection program for our safety and for payment I prefer to use an eBay safety Bank account."- E-bay doesn't have a protection program or bank account.

"If you don't like the truck and want to return it, I will arrange to ship it back (on my costs)"- No one does that, too much risk and costs a lot to ship back.

"I just need your full name and address so I can open a case."- Noone talks like that again and egar to get everything rolling

"You must know that eBay will contact you without any obligatiaon to buy it or fees."- No they won't. e-bay is just a website, they don't get involved in fees other than for the seller.

scam scam scam scam :ouch:

Yeah I pretty much knew it was a scam because there was absolutely no info regarding the questions I asked her in the original email...

Sootster 12-17-2009 01:52 PM

This is a common Craig's list scam. You'd think by now they would have given up as people are wise to being scamed but the criminal mind never rests.:td:
