Almost as easy as running electrical wire.......after using it, I can't believe I ever wasted so much time sweating copper.

I think you'll like it, Kev....

redneckbuckeye 07-07-2007 04:45 PM

I was looking at doing it in a concrete floor in a grid for radiant heat. Seams to be what a lot of builders are using. The builder I work for uses it.

Whit 07-07-2007 04:50 PM

I see they have some other PEX recommended for the heating projects....cant member the details but its on that website

Depends on your water if you have very harsh water like in Socal it won't last but a few years then you will have thousands of pinhole leaks. I don't see it ever lasting as long as copper, but maybe long enough you can justified replacing it in 10+ years.

I've never heard this before...thats scary cause its all under my house slab and in the walls... 7 years old now.

Mr. Miyagi 07-10-2007 10:33 PM

Any evidence on what causes the leakage?

Are you sure your not referring to the older Polly-B and not the I-Pex?
I have yet to hear of a failure with the Pex pipe, a few problems with poor install procedures but not the products fault. The stuff for in-floor slabs is different than just the regular stuff.

I agree. Pex will stand up to alot, provided the installation is done correctly. Make sure that you treat the fittings correctly and you should be fine. Are you gonna be on well water or city water? Like any other piping, if you have excessive minerals in your water, it is gonna affect the life of the pipe and fittings. If the water has a high mineral count or high TDS (total disolved solids), you might consider a softner.

Ya know I don't know for sure the builders I was taking never said, but I was asking about the PEX.

CHenry 07-12-2007 12:30 PM

Pex is proven to be good as far as i know...

Mr. Miyagi 07-12-2007 10:59 PM

I've never heard of any issues with PEX, other than initial cost (moot point now that copper has skyrocketed) and slow acceptance by the old school plumbers who believe nothing beats copper.

94Matt 09-06-2007 09:37 PM

Probably to late, but don't buy it from those guys. Those prices are more than double what it can be had for.

Pex tends to do better in the event of a freeze, it gives a little.

I've never heard of water eating plastic, that must be some serious water.

Whit 09-07-2007 07:55 AM

this project is all complete now....................not a single leak all is good

sure is easy to install

HellBilly 11-14-2007 01:26 PM

Yup pex is the way to go. Ran waterline in my 3000 sq ft house in less then 2 days, and im not a plumber.

Nitelord 11-14-2007 01:55 PM

Most of the contractors I know, have been using Pex for all their re-modeling projects.

I've heard nothing but good things about it..

NukleusX 11-15-2007 10:49 PM

My ol man been in plumbing business bout 30 years, and he is one them old dogs you just cant teach new tricks, he still swears by use of copper pipe; and talks down this new stuff. I myself, being in Iowa just a few short months, have seen that PEX is tried and true and talked very well about out here. When I get back home, I will ask some of the other plumbers whom I know through my dad if they use it at all.

Though as Dozer Boy said, SoCal may just be different, and perhaps even the younger plumbers are not going to it yet. We shall find out soon enough though-

dmaxjenn 11-16-2007 12:19 PM

The bathroom that I just redid Whit had Pex pipes in it, black mold... leak,,, but the problem was in the sink .. I think the crimping pliers are the key, cause you cant even crimp that with out them. as long as you used them, it should be good...Its sure is tough to try to undo if thats a good thing.

Whit 11-16-2007 12:27 PM

Our cabin has been done with the PEX for several months now and no leaks.......real good stuff and very easy to use

as Jenn says the krimping tools are the key to it and you hafta have the right tools or its a no go

the only thing you can do with a bad connection is to cut the band or tubing and start over
