thanks Runamuk,

changing the topic back to renting a rug doctor....
wifey has worn out 2 regina rinse and vac rug shampoo machines in the last 15 years...
today we bought a new hoover steam vac model F7410900 wide path cost 270 @ wally world.....

wifey won't allow it to be used on her mother house but it sure works great here at home.....it makes these neat little swirl marks in the carpet....

at 50 to 55 to rent a rug doctor owning your own machine will pay for itself fast...

also if you're cheap as i am having one of these rinse and vacs on hand at all times will help your carpets last forever....

amazon has the same hoover for $267. no tax

Be careful using too much over the shelf carpet chemicals like resolve, they will leave a residue in the carpet that will cause dust or other air borne particles to settle on the same spot making it appear as if the stain is coming back.

Also be careful using ANY kind of rotary type carpet cleaning machine, it will cause the carpet fibers to unspin if you will, causing premature wear patterns and soiling. All manufactures recognize "steam cleaning" methods to retain your manufacturing warranty. This needs to be done once a year, the above mentioned chemicals will sometimes have negative reactions to the steam from your cleaning pros.

we have never used any soap or chemicals cleaning our carpets....
i don't remember who suggested this but somebody told us one time that if you don't use soap, your scotchguard will last longer and in my case only not using soap has worked. i'm not a pro but you should see our carpets, they still look new....
all high traffic areas of the house have ceramic tile tho....
