what street bike for you?
I'm curious what street bikes you guys ride most of the time or prefer to ride...
|
I have an '07 Ninja 250. It's my first bike, I've only ridden about 3000mi on it, it's super fun. Uses almost no gas, still takes off well enough. I'd like to get an R6 Yamaha, but not for a year at least. Got too many other things on the go...like planned mods for my truck.
I was also considering a Honda VTX. Those are sweet looking bikes, and I found a couple good deals, but just have to wait. It would be a great cruiser, but I like sharp handling. I've already got a slow handling truck, need something to balance it out. |
hmm, I forgot to add an option for the econo-bikes. they're not really sportbikes or cruisers but you can't make fun of 'em either because they get 65-100mpg depending on rider weight and drive style...
I take that back, they technically do have sport and cruiser 250's so no econo-category necessary. I'm pretty happy with my SV-1000s over my CBR600rr as far as day to day commuting. I think the SV is technically a sport bike but I consider it a sport-touring as it's comparable to a VFR or superhawk. |

I have had a a few bikes right now I don't have any but my next one will be a custom bobber or chopper I love them just doesn't get any cooler lol.
old bikes were 76 yamaha rd400 80's honda rebel 250 chopped out 97 honda superhawk 996 03 suzuki gsxr 750 |
I started cutting up my 82 Yamaha XS650 to make a standard wheelbase bobber. Then I started doing stuff to my truck and other projects that paid, I have to get back on that thing in the next couple weeks so I can ride it this spring. There's just something wonderful about the sound of an open pipe twin combined with an uncomfortable riding stance that's worsened by the spine jarring hard tail that I can't get enough of!!

07 GSXR :U: :U: Waiting on a db sticker to put on it, no it isn't diesel, but while I'm passing them, they should be able to read it :lol88: |
Rode sportbikes for many years. Now that I am getting older, I think I will get a cruiser next.
|
Do they build a diesel 4X4 bike yet?:humm:

Thats an 08 fyi..... :w2:
|
I started out on a sport bike but am working my way to get me a Harley or build me a Bobber.
|
I like the cbr f4i just because the frames can handle getting slammed on the ground all day without cracking
|
Especially if you throw a 905 cage on them! :choochoo:

I just bought an 86 Radian the other day. It's my first street bike and it only has 6,000 original miles. It's a little small for me but it goes like hell. The snow came off the roads yesterday so I took my first ride on it after work. :up2:

i also bought a 750 monster (dark) back in 02 ... wish i still had it. now i'm back on good ol' F bikes. the one above is actually a 1100 with 750 side covers. made from 79-83 the f bikes are the grand daddy of super bikes. like ducati's they are more nimble then others. make them a batter track bike then a drag bike. the big brother to the 1100f is the 1100r stockin a whopping 120hp not bad for 1983 http://www.radical-racing.net/custom.../cb1100r_1.jpg Freddie Spencer made these bikes famous in the early 80's when he won 2 out of every 3 races http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/82cb750f.jpg Attachment 53739 Attachment 53740 modified bike with a 1100 engine granted these won't keep up with today's standards. but they are cheap to work on. :tttt: |
I ride a 2006 SV1000 on the road, and a 2008 Sherco 290 Trials Bike in the dirt. :U:

I'm surprised there's not more cruiser fans on here. :pca1:

Cruisers suck :booo:
I paid $20,000 for my HD, then added $10grand in Screaming Eagle blablabla... Oh ya?? I can still blow your chrome off with my stock V-Max, WITH the wife on the back AND on one wheel.... :ph: :tttt: |
i always wanted to try a v-max... always heard alot about the infamous v-boost..
i was checking out a B-king the other day.. kinda funny lookin.. but 187hp i'll be ok with funny lookin:U: |
V-boost is like NOS. As soon as you hit 6200rpm, the V-Boost butterfly opens and you are off... :woot: You go from 6k to 12k faster than Obama spending a trillion dollars.
Basically what happens: Under normal operation, one carb feeds one cylinder (4 carbs, 4 cyl, V-4), just like any other 4 cyl. There are 2 crossover tubes that connect 2 carbs together with a butterfly in between to keep them closed off. At 6200rpm, an actuator opens the butterfly and makes the 2 carbs crossflow to one cyl. like opening a the secondarys on a Holly. The percise overfueling makes the engine run so damn good it's unbelievible. It revs to 12k redline and pounding the gears literally will bring the front wheel up. :U: |
Got a BMW R1100RT an a 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900 that I bought new when I was in service . The Z1 was a real contender its day , I rode a friends R1 Yam a while back all I can say is WOW about stoped this ole mans heart

Not to me. You sit in a hunched over position, with your legs infront of you and your arms too high up, where blood can't circulate correctly. A standard or touring is the best. You sit upright, no pressure on your back. Your legs hold the bike and work with you, not against you. Your arms are a little lower and closer in, makeing for the best all around position. I use to have a Honda Shadow.....sold it in 6 months because it was so uncomfortable. I've riden my buddy's Yamaha Roadstar and although it's probably the best cruiser I've ever riden, it still just didn't feel right and it put my ass to sleep (no me, just my ass). I borrowed another buddy's HD Softail Springer for a day....OMG :argh: talk about a piece. I was on the freeway hauling ass, mirrors vibrating, engine screaming.. :U: A dude in a car was tailgating me and I was like WTF why are you tailgating I've got to be doing 80ish. I look down at the speedo, I'm doing 55mph :argh::argh: But I looked good doing it. :ouch: Anyways, I can bash on cruisers all day long. They are more of a 'look' than function. :bat: |

I do find it surprising you're not comfortable on a cruiser, though; I've heard that before and can't figure out if it's just a guy doesn't fit on the specific bikes he's tried or what. You should go find a Victory/Polaris dealer and demo a Vegas. and the assugly spaceship they call the Vision...that's the ugliest modern bike I've ever seen but ho-ly-crap if it's not a lazy boy couch. I didn't even know what to think, I was sitting in a comfortable riding position on a soft seat that felt more like a chair, it accelerates like it should with a monster 100 cube V twin and whips through the corners like a dang sport-touring bike. I find it hard to give you crap for not fitting on cruisers though because I want to kiss the ground that your 996 sits on. |

bah-hahahaha! well, I mean, other than making 10 times more sound than power, rough harmonics literally vibrating/shaking the entire bike apart, having horrible suspension, getting poor mileage for how much power is made and paying far more than a comparable bike is worth...what's so bad about an HD?
. :lol88: |

At speed, I'm sure that would translate to poor handling. My father has always been a Jap bike fan, sport touring. |

I'll probably never own another cruiser. It's not my style (I wear a helmet). To me, cruisers are big, heavy, bulky, they are not quick, nimble or stop well, well at least not like I like. Even my V-max might be going by-by soon, to be replaced by something more comfy and quick for 2 people: maybe a Ducati Multistrada, or Yamaha FZ1. :U: Oh and swing down sometime, I'll let you breath the air my 996s breaths.... :ok1: :tttt: |
I have a 2006 R1 50th Anniversary :U:
