lmao. thanks for that. i actually was wanting to own a performance/body shop. i think it would definately be a fun thing to do and like you said i could still do some art stuff. i wouldn't say i'm a self proclaimed gearhead. but i would like to learn everything i can about cars/trucks and then some. but yeah i 'preciate the input:U:

I would go the diesel Mech route yeah your body will fall apart at an early age, your back will hurt everymorning when you wake up and you wont be able to squeeze a pair of pliers when your 40 but hey at least you work for your money,

One thing I'd point out is the very different work environments. One is blue collar, hands on, while the other is very very professional. Think about how you want to spend your days, which you'd be more comfortable with, feel more like yourself. In fashion, you're selling yourself and the image you project, not just your designs and ideas. In mechanics, you selling your knowledge, skill, strength and ability, work ethic. Do you want to have waking up with a zit affect how you approach a presentation? Do you want the fact that you are interested in fashion affect how the guys treat you when you go out for a beer after work? Big decision, but only you can make it. Take your time thinking it out. :U:

If you want to work on diesels all day then come home and work on your own truck, do that, if not, then do the fashion thing.

i think that if i end up deciding to go the automotive route that my fashion design stuff will be done. but of course if i go the fashion route i'm gonna still be doing automotive stuff cause i love my diesel truck. but as of now i am leaning towards the automotive industry. and if i ever feel like i need more money i will just work my ass off and try and get my company bigger. i like both of them...but right now my heart is telling me to go to auto diesel college. and i've always liked the idea of having a car/truck customizing shop. :)

If you know how to make clothes, ie. stich and sew, there is a very wide-open market out there when it comes to custom and restored upholstery and interiors.

Find a tailor or auto-upholstery school, and with an interest in cars you'd be pretty valuable after a few years of experience.

Well speaking as a lady who loves her truck & has some experience in the clothing industry (retail) maybe I should speak up. The upholstery idea is a really good one. I have a friend who does seat covers & convertible tops in his garage for extra money because it helps make ends meet in a big way with free time. He's a short haul truck driver with classic car interests. He meets new customers at the weekend car shows held at various Sonic drive ins. More business then he wants to tell the truth so the demand is there.

Questions:
Can you draw? Artist renderings of fashion prototypes are very important so so you doodle?
Have you ever made a shirt or a pair of pants? Get a sewing machine & try some Butterick patterns.

The competition for fashion design is simply fierce. Mostly luck I think. If Calvin Klein had not had an opportunity to hawk his coats in that swank hotel I doubt the rich ladies would have noticed his talent.

Attending school will help you decide. :humm: Be sure to take some business courses!
