JK And A Hemi??

Eric, I decided not to hijack your 'what ya think about this???' thread and just start my own as I plan to throw a fair amount of pics up over the next month.

what we have here is an '08 JK Rubicon on lil' 35's and old man emu springs, all driven by a minivan-esque 3.7L V6, which just doesn't seem up to the task like the 4.0L I6's were. so it's getting a 5.7L Hemi from a Jeep Commander! I think the Hemis go great in anything but the full size trucks.

That'll be really cool. You getting the rest of the stuff in a kit from someplace like AEV or are you splicing harnesses and all of that yourself?

Burnsville Off Road up in my neck of the woods has been doing this to the JK, TJ, YJ and well about any Jeep you can think of. They do really nice work. Even have a couple Jeeps with the V-10.

yeah I'm going with Burnsville. I called up both Burnsville and AEV and decided to go with Burnsville. It's kinda pricey but you get absolutely everything you need, the kit should be here sometime next week.

The biggest thing is they include a wiring harness that's already spliced/rerouted so you can plug the engine/trans into the JK computer/chassis and EVERYTHING works. then there's all the 'little' stuff of an engine swap, exhaust, hoses/lines for pwr steering and A/C, radiator, engine/trans mounts.

I'm working on getting in touch with mysterync on here about some suncoast parts for the transmission as I'll be using the 545rfe.

anyone know of a good Jeep/Hemi performance forum? I'd like to do some basic engine mods but I'm not real familiar with the aftermarket support, yet.

Yeah that wiring harness will be worth it's weight in gold. Can't wait to see the finished product, dude.

Was it AEV who put the CR Cummins in the 4-Door JK?

Hemi Would be awsome in that. But i think it needs another 6 inches of lift and 37's...

Well, I realize this is a diesel forum but c'mon, a stout V8 is bolting into where a little V6 is supposed to be! I really wanted to be able to use one of the new common rail Jeep diesel engines that are going in the Commander/Cherokee but they are absolutely impossible to find at this point. a sprinter/mercedes CR would bolt up to the 545rfe, though...that's what I'd do if it were mine.

I concur, the front tires rub at full lock with a little articulation but this guy does a lot of traveling around the states and moderate off-roading, nothing really technical as it's his daily driver.

I say hemi In lou of an sbc:argh::booo:

greasemonkey 09-29-2008 09:25 PM

um, the Hemi bolts in and looks like it left the factory that way. plus a slightly modified wiring harness allows the vehicle's dash and all additional features to properly function...that right there is a lot to be said for an engine swap for the current decade of vehicles.

it's not a bad engine, either. It's no LS2 6.0L but beats a gen 1 sbc by a long shot. The heads are a good design; these engines seem to benefit a lot from a cam swap, valve springs and a performance tune...they're pretty severely detuned in factory spec.
