The new VCT HEMI is a bad a$$ motor. 390HP from a 345ci block is pretty good, plus it pushing well over 400lb-ft. That's more torque than most of the first gen diesels were putting out in P/U's.:tttt:

Yeah they did that for Petersen's 4wheel mag. But it was either them or BOR that put done the 3.0 and 2.8 CRD engines too in the JK and TJ.
A few years ago BOR also did a 4BT/NV4500 into a YJ. Turned out very nice. |
Seen an episode of xtreme 4x4 the other day. They were just finishing a Hemi swap on a TJ:

I'm not opposed to the 6BT in there just for kicks...it definitely has a ton of cool factor. I think the 6BT is more of a Humvee/H1 candidate as far as practicality goes, though. Even the 4BT would be a bit heavy for the JK platform, IMO. I'd really like to see a sprinter/MB I5 diesel in one of these JK's, I think that'd be perfect for a trail rig.
Dodge and their SRT program seem to have done their homework with the Hemi, these things are turning out to be quite impressive. |
The problem with the MB Sprinter engines is they're weak. I mean, less than 200HP isn't gonna give you a lot of wheel speed in a hurry like you often need. Wonder how easy it is to bomb one of them.
