Jobs for Veterans...and family
Heres a link that most of you probably already know about but has helped many of my AF counterparts, both them and their family. The link is straight to the Veterans Employment section but it there are job postings for anyone as well. This site has helped many vets obtain civil service jobs.... you can't beat it for job security trust me I know. :yeah: Hope it helps.....

Disney was offering a free pass to active duty card holders through 2009. Don't know if they'll be doing it for 2010 too, but something to check out.
|
If Disney is still doin it then that means it's good for Bush Gardens and Epcot also. Thanks .

I just learned USAA has expanded their membership
Membership is open to: * Children of USAA members. * Active-duty officers and enlisted personnel. * National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel. * Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS). * Former military personnel: o Retired officers and enlisted personnel. o Former officers and enlisted personnel who separated on or after 01/01/1996. * Former USAA members who had auto or property insurance. * Insurance * Banking * Investments * Financial Advice https://www.usaa.com |
I've been using USAA for car insurance for many years. I was active duty for 28 years, and several co-workers had auto and home owners ins claims with them - and were treated well. When you do insurance with them you become a part owner, and occasionally get rebates back ,and they maintain some of your dollars in an account you can cash in if you leave USAA.
I also do all my banking with them. They refund ATM machine costs, and some debit rebates as well. Their on line banking and insurance system is slick and easy to use. I also have my motorhome loan thru them. Bottom line - I highly recommend them.

x2. Totally recommend USAA. I've only had them for about 2 years now, I do my banking through them, and insurance also - great service, always willing to help. Highly recommended by me :)

I found a working link for the GI Bill transfer of benefits procedure, I'd tried it about 6 months ago when they first came out with it, but no one knew where to go or what forms to properly use. I'm still waiting to hear back, but this should be a good link for it...

Got this today at work...it's a long list, and I gotta retype it, but here goes...
Military and Federal Employee Discounts: All these businesses offer military discounts, all you have to do is ask. (NOTE: This list is incomplete, as I have received military discounts from a few stores not on this list...I will add them in on the end) Restaurants Arby's A&W Back Yard Burgers Burger King Captain D's Chick-Fil-A Cotton Patch Denny's Dunkin' Donuts IHOP (20 percent discount with military identification) Java Cafe KFC Long John SIlver Pancho's Mexican Buffet Pizza Hut Quizno's Sizzler Sonic Taco Bell Whataburger Services AT&T California Cryobank Geico Jiffy Lube Meineke Sears Portrait Studio Travel and Leiser Blockbuster Movie theaters (not sure which ones, the list didn't specify) Ripley's attractions and museums Professional Sports teams (again, not sure which ones, the list didn't specify) Products Apple Computers AutoZone Barnhill's Bass Pro Shop Bath and Body Works Big 10 Tires The Buckle Champs Sports Copeland's Sports Dell The Discovery Channe Store Dress Barn The Finish Line Foot Action Footlocker Gadzooks GNC Goody's Great Party Happy Harry's Hot Topic Jockey Lerner Michael's NAPA Auto Parts New York & Company Pac SUn Payless Shoes Play It Again Sports Pure Beauty Sally Beauty SUpply Spencer's Gifts Suncoast Timberland Outlets Wilson's Leather Cell Phone Service discount All Federal employees are able to get a 15% discount on their personal cell phones by calling their carrier and mentioning the "Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996-Discount to Federal Employees Past and Present. Cingular Sprint T-Mobile Nextel Verizon and at least 1 that I noticed wasn't listed: Kragen's Auto Parts/Checkers Auto Parts ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also, I have a detailed explanation of how to apply for the Post 9/11 MGIB transfer of benefits to spouses... The steps are laid out in MarAdmin 421/09. The Marine must agree/be eligible to serve an additional 4 years, on top of the 6 years already served, unless they've hit higher tenure already. If they are eligible, they must request the transfer of benefits on the following website: https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/agents...s=DFAS,FAM,CAC which they can log in using either a Common Access Card (CAC) DOD Self-Service Logon (which I assume means a self generated user name and pin) or their DFAS Pin (mypay) Once they log in, they will have the opportunity to transfer their benefits to whichever eligible dependent they choose. Once that is done in the system, the individual must get with admin and sign a Statement Of Understanding (the specific SOU I was told is listed in the MarAdmin), and submitted up to the approving official. Once the SOU is completed and approved, the individual must then go on to the following website: https://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp And finish the process by submitting the request to the VA for their spouse. This is listed as the procedures for the Marine Corps, the steps may be slightly different for the other Armed Services... This only took me 8 months to figure out!:argh: |
