Military Veterans Web Sites And Deals

This post is intended to be a place to post any and all web sites that you have knowledge of that may be useful to the many Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves and Retired Military Personnel that we have as members on this site.

Please refrain from listing the war stories here so that we can make it a convenient, quick and easy to use resource for anybody looking for information. Just the link will work if need be but it would also be nice if there was a short description for the links explaining what it leads you to and what the benefits if this site might be.

I wanna thank our very own Redpatcher for the idea for this post.

Thanks for your participation in this endeavor and most of all thanks to all of you for your service.

Now what made me look at all this was I pulled up to a red light one day and saw this guy standing there holding a sign saying Military Veteran, homeless, need a job, I rolled down the window and asked him if he was really a veteran and he said yes and pulled out his DD214 and showed me. I just could not believe that somebody that fought for this country was living on the street. Now I know alot of these guys are lying, most are drug addicts or alcoholics or just out there trying to get people to feel sorry for them and give them money.

So I went home and started looking on the net and I came across the State of Texas Veterans website and saw all the benefits the state provides to veterans that earned them. I did not know that they existed.

When I came off active duty I had to go through a transition class to go back into the civilian world and the information given was mainly about the federal benefits that veterans earned but it did not say anything about state benefits.

Like in the State of Texas when you use all of you Federal Education benefits you can go to any State school for free (Hazelwood Act), you can also purchase land from the State, you find some land you want to buy, you go to the State and tell them you want to buy this particular tract and the State buys the property and then you buy the land from the State. (TVLB VLB | Land Mortgages ) the state will even help get you a job. I wrote all this information down and stuck it in the truck so the next time I saw that guy I would give it to him, and I did, he seemed very appreciative of the info, and I have not seen this guy again. Maybe he followed up on the information or maybe he moved on. Who knows.

So I made a list of all the State's Veterans websites.

Redpatcher, have you actually used those sites or help from them???
I went to the place here to get help and they said that it took so long to get help from those sites, etc that it was actually easier to do it on your own, I personally do not know, I am in that process right now and have just finished my actual bus plan for the loan acquisition and they said that if I went that rout it would take another 6-8 months to get funded... I have already got four months in putting the actual plan together...
Has anyone here actually got experience with using these resources for startting a new business???
