Also is it an auto draft or is the going to be a draft in chat or some other way?

My experience with Fantasy is that 20 teams is too many. Most are limited to 10-15 teams. Otherwise the quality of players are very limited. The person unfortunate to draft 20 get picks 20-21 and does not draft again for 40 more picks. Just a thought.

Auto Draft

hehe...we just finished our live draft for our local fantasy football league about 30 minutes ago. I've got a fairly decent team going and we havent even stated talking about trades yet. :up2:

It is not really that hard if it is auto draft because the computer drafts for you. You have to go in each week and set your lineup. That is pretty much it.

In live draft leagues it is important to know each players bye week, strength of each players schedule, prior years start rate and points. You also have to keep up with the keepers of other teams you are playing against. If you pick up a stud player as a free agent this year, next year you want to keep him he would become your 15th round pick. So you may not want to draft a player that is hurt for 6-7 weeks or a player like Brandon Marshal (Broncos) Chris Henry (Bengals) who is going to be suspended. Most likely he/they will be able to be picked up as a free agent and if they produce you could keep him in the 15th were he may otherwise be drafted in the 3,4 next year. You also have to learn the trends of the people you are playing against, if you know that you want a certain tight end, but you have not yet drafted your RBs, WR, you may have to go ahead and get your stud TE so someone does not get them.

In our draft that we are having tomorrow I have the 5th pick I could have had 2-10 but I chose 5th so that only 10 players would be selected between any of my picks. Usually drafts got 1-10, 11-1 and so on like a snake order. I have spent about 30 hours researching and I have a full draft "board" as do the other guys I play with. It is fun, it is a hobby but in our league we play for about $2,000.00 for the winning team so it is also competitive.

Yahoo does a pretty fair job at free fantasy, we do CBS sportsline because it is up to the second scoring and we have watching parties to see how we are doing against the other people. Play it this year, you should have fun.

Yep, like Aaron said there is a big difference between the auto draft and live draft. Dont get involved in a live draft unless you absolutely live eat and breath football. If you dont know the players stats, injury levels and rankings you will get your butt handed to you. :pca1:

i watch ESPN almost everydayso i know what is basically happening. i wouldnt say i eat ,breath, sleep, football but i know enough to get away with it

ESPN is so biased though, they are very partial to the east coast teams. I would say that ESPN's coverage is pretty poor. NFL channel, Foxsports.com, prosportsdaily, yahoosports.com, SI.com and cbssportsline will give you much better info on what is going on.

I also read a ton of team based forums to get info and opinions of players I am interested in.

Anyone ever draft their defense first? I know who I'd really like to get for D, but not sure if it's smart to go that way first. I've never done this so we'll see.

Another question....if we don't get a full 12 by August 31, mind if I add a second team? Be interesting to let the computer draft one and try and pick my own and see what happens.

You never take a defense first, you can get a defense in the final round.

Yep, NEVER pick a defense first but the normal pattern is as soon as someone picks one, no matter what round it is, everyone jumps on the bandwagon and snatches them up.
