COOKING Poormansoupe'

1 bag fresh green beans that need snapped
1 bag Red Potatoes
1 Big Chunk of ham

What Do i do ?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-22-2008 05:17 PM

String and Snap the Beans. Get ya a big pot and cut the potatoes in half. Put the Beans, Potatoes and Ham in the pot with some water and let it cook slowly on low heat. YUMMY

DB Admin 03-22-2008 05:21 PM

Would that work ? Thats what i was going for , Cube the ham and put it in there with the snapped beans and cut potatoes

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-22-2008 05:22 PM

That will work good.... Just add some Black Pepper

2001shrtbedcummins 03-22-2008 05:54 PM

yea...if they are small red potatoes than leave em like they are...you're wanting a bit bigger than bite sized potatoes...no matter how many times you wanna cut em...you have want the potato to be about a bite and a half sized. If you've got the ones that are ping pong ball sized leave em be. That's the size you you're looking for. Then just put good sized chunks of ham in there. Make sure you add water...I forgot that part...I know how hard this can be chad...then turn the stove on low. My dad is collaborating with me so we got this. If you could follow instructions my dad would even tell ya how to make cornbread.

DB Admin 03-22-2008 06:10 PM

i bought rolls !!!

Ok Ill do this like you say phil do i want the water to be just even with the top of stuff ?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-22-2008 06:16 PM

Thats about right Chad :U:

LOGANSTANFORTH 03-22-2008 06:38 PM

throw some onions and other vegetable in their if ya got them......(i know its complicated Chad but we can work you through this)........

***its rather sad the boy can design, code, build and run a complex website, work at a company with a very expensive plastic extruding machine, yet he cant make potato soup***

2001shrtbedcummins 03-22-2008 06:55 PM

you want the water about half an inch deeper than the beans.

Mr. Miyagi 03-22-2008 06:59 PM

Put it all in a blender.....on high. Add just a touch of red wine vinegar. Touch a wee lil touch.

Then pour it all into muffin tins and bake.

Trust me on this...

DB Admin 03-22-2008 07:14 PM

lol , OK its on the oven on 3 thats pretty low , I put in some fresh ground black pepper and Tomato Basel and garlic Mrs Dash and filled with water 1/2 inch above the stuff and mixed it all up good

How long till i eat phil ?

I didnt get any onions maybe next time if this turns out ok :)

this is true , I cant cook because ive never had to , I can make good chili now im tring this out ,,

The potato soup i have at other places has a thick sauce (white) thats very good I dont know what that is , I bought 3 cans of Cream of Mushroom just incase you said to use it

LOGANSTANFORTH 03-22-2008 07:18 PM

use it......but make sure some of the water is boiled off first and dont let it BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can throw it in just a few minutes before you eat, all it has to do is warm up.......

DB Admin 03-22-2008 07:26 PM

nice stove.... looks like mine..... i'd throw some carrots in there if it was me..... i would have done that this morning and put it in the slow cooker and let it cook all day on low and it would be the hawtness....

DB Admin 03-22-2008 08:00 PM

Yep I dont think im going to get to eat this ARGH !!!!! , I want to throw it on high and chow down in 15Mins

Benjamin 03-22-2008 08:03 PM

if those beans were raw then it's gonna be a while before they are done.... you might want to crank it on up, get it to a rolling boil for about 5 minutes then turn it down to a low simmer for maybe an hour or so and it should be consumable

that's kinda what I was thinking. We usually start the beans about 3 and have em done by six with cooking on low. But like Benji said, boil it till you can start to stick the fork in the potatoes and then turn it back down a bit.

Now about this potato soup? Are we making soup or beans? Because I thought we were making a pot of beans. Or maybe this is Ohio Potato Soup?

Oh yeah, sorry I didn't get back so quick, I'm making an angel food cake right now to have strawberry shortcake.

Benjamin 03-22-2008 08:33 PM

ya it sounds like yankee potato soup to me..... my south georgia potato soup has potatoes, milk, butter and salt.

DB Admin 03-22-2008 08:33 PM

It may have some flour in it to thicken it up if I want it thick.

nope you boil the taters till they are done, then mash them where they are still chunky, add milk while stiring till it is the consistancy desired, warm on stove as not to curtle the milk, slowly get it hotter and melt in desired ammount of butter, depending on the size of the pot i use a couple TBLspoons to a half a stick of butter...... then salt to taste..... if you can't see the butter seperating on the top of the bowl of soup (like oil and water) then there isn't enough butter in it.....

DB Admin 03-22-2008 08:54 PM

Were just having cooked ham tater and greenbeans , will try the soup another time

LOGANSTANFORTH 03-22-2008 10:17 PM

steak wrapped in bacon smothered in butter doused in whiskey or beer when your frying it......makes for a good flame too......

fry up some mushrooms, onions and barbecue sauce in a pan slowly, take chicken breast and when its frying SLOWLY make some deep slices in the breast and push the mushrooms, onions and BBQ into the slices and let it cook slowly, you can also wrap this in bacon but back off on the BBQ, it lets you taste the bacon better, oh and use thick cut pepper bacon for the best results......

eggs, bisquick biscuit mix, mushrooms, tomatos, onions, potatos, ham, bacon, sausage, about 4 different kinds of cheese and lots off it, mix everything together and dump in a greased pan and let her cook.......that'll make a puppy pull a freight train.......

and i wonder why i weigh in at 330lbs.......

Dr. Evil 03-23-2008 12:32 AM

Good God Chad - how do you eat something like that?....

BTW, the "white" stuff in potatoe soup is MILK...

DB Admin 03-23-2008 12:42 AM

Dr. Evil 03-23-2008 12:48 AM
