career in autobody
so i've been looking into a career change for a while. started thinking about going to school for autobody but haven't really decided.
anybody on here have experience in the trade? if so, what a typical day like? are you typically paid by the hour or by the job? do they typically stress production more than quality of work? wut do u like or dislike about it? wut part of autobody do u do? i.e. paint, body, frame, etc. anyhelp is appreciated. only know 1 person in it and he's pretty unhappy so i can't consider him a good source of info. |

If you're interested in going to school to learn auto body, Wyotech has a great Collision & Refinishing program that I think you should look into. PM me for the contact info of the person you should talk to about it.

anybody else have any thoughts. much appreciated if you do.

I think you pretty much have to own your own shop to make any money at that. I have a buddy who does it and is burned out completely. He went from auto body repair to painting airplanes at a airplane maintenance facility and he got paid pretty good for that, he just got sick of it. Monotiny....:se:

Auto body is one of those fun jobs to do while your young, but a body gets old after doin it for a while every day. Between years of auto paint work and Metal refinishing and plating all I ended up with was unpaid bills and asthma. We did mostly restorations so it was alot of suckin in rust and dirt while you were beatin on stuff and the resperators back then were useles. In the metal plating and refinishing it was just alot of chemicals. It was amazing how fast your stuffed up sinus'es clear out when your scooping cyanide out of a 55 gal drum breathing the dust from it. Best decongestant on the market. Think about your long term future and go for something like the radiology. JMHO
