I might be buying my first truck this Tuesday!!!!!!!!

I am heading to Houston this Monday afternoon and spending the night. Going to test drive it Tuesday morning and hopefully drive her 10 hours back to the Lubbock area I currently call home. It is a 1987 ford f350 single cab dually with a Banks SideWinder turbo on it's 6.9 diesel. It also has a nice flatbed on it with a recessed ball. I have the chance to snatch it at 900 bucks, but I will try to go lower because it has a slow oil leak. It does have 2 gauges mounted on the dash though, so it isn't done blind. I want this 2wd manual badly and hope it will be in the driveway soon!!! I want to bring it home, wash it, add a straight pipe, pipe bumper on the front, pioneer stereo ( nothing crazy, just stereo) leveling kit, tint the windows, shifter knob of some kind, and a few more things. What do y'all think??

It sounds like it should be pretty cool.
Reg cabs look the nicest as far as I'm concerned. :rocking:
Flat deck is a good option too.
Post up some pics when you get it home.

I JUST found out my my neighbor would sell his 96 powerstroke for 1200 with a new starter and it runs and drives!!!! Test driving it this Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!:jump::jump:

So, you're buying TWO new-to-you trucks? One to bomb like crazy and one to run for parts? :w2:

Truck Guy99 11-12-2012 10:15 AM

I wish!!!!! I can only afford so many things. I am getting my permit soon and I am probably going to end up being my dad's personal driver. That wasn't a joke, he really wants me to be driving him pretty much everywhere non work related. I don't mind though. Gives them an excuse to buy me diesel!!!!

gunman41mag 11-15-2012 02:32 AM

which truck did you finally buy:humm:

Truck Guy99 11-15-2012 09:59 AM

Nothing so far, but the truck with the sidewinder sold right after I decided to not take the risk of bringing it up here. I think I will be better off with an extended or crew cab because we will be taking a few road trips with it. I would also like to have a turbo diesel that fits in most drive through s. I also found out the 6.9 in Houston was repainted red from its original white because a patch of paint was missing on the door. I think I am better off with the powerstroke. I was worried driving a truck that was 25 years old 10 hours and being stranded somewhere. I found out that even if I used a free hotel night we had and ate from the dollar menu the whole way and bought the cheapest fuel in Houston, I would have spent about 1,150. Why not spend 50 bucks more and get a truck that is 10 hours closer, 9 years newer, about twice the cab space, and has less tires to replace? I tow at the max about 6.5k which is rare, the rest of the time is about 2k.

That post makes perfect sense:tu:

Not to mention junk yard finds are less rare. No salt here so no rust. OBS fords are plentiful here.

gunman41mag 11-16-2012 08:24 AM

let us know when you buy your FORD truck:tu:

I plan to just drive this truck until it finally blows the motor and then do a cummmins swap if the truck isn't too torn up. I am picturing a 2wd manual 2nd gen 12 valve with maybe a 4x4 swap if the cash is there. I hope the motor lasts at least till 350,000 before puking.

I have some bad news gents. I got a call from the owner a little while ago and he said he was about to go to the parts store to get the new starter and his wife stopped him on his way out to ask where he was going. When he told her where he was going and why, she reminded him that he had promised that truck to his son. He then remembered that and called me to tell the news. Looks like the truck search is on yet again. :w:I am SICK and TIRED of dealing with this stuff. Back to the mines of ebay and craigslist.

gunman41mag 11-16-2012 05:03 PM

you'll find another diesel truck:tu:

RanchhandTCR 11-16-2012 05:06 PM

I wouldent promise a truck to my son.... he can buy his own like I did... you will find one man, my buddy just bought a 97 crew cab powerstroke for 1500K 4x4 and a 5speed with around 250K. If you take care of these motors they will last a good long wile.. One closed door leads to another open door just search around youll find what you need... but I hate wives. but it was a wife that made the husband let go of the tuck I have... so I like em every now and then.. Look on autotrader too, sometimes one will pop up on there... :dang:

Truck Guy99 11-16-2012 07:29 PM

I think one of the reasons is that his son's early 2nd gen dodge gasser just puked it's motor a few weeks ago and it's sitting in the driveway next to the power stroke I wanted. Me and my dad are going to go to a few farm auctions and the local auto actions pretty soon.

CumminsCrazed 11-16-2012 10:26 PM

ok.....just curious here, but how old are you, you mentioned not even having a permit yet??

Truck Guy99 11-16-2012 11:12 PM

14 and turning 15 in just a bit. And yes, I do have my parents blessings on this. I plan to work on it for a bit until i am 16 so it will be road ready. My parents and brother will be driving it until I am old enough to my self in a few months. Looking forward to going to a few auctions soon. And for those of you wondering, yes I have been to many an auction before.

Truck Guy99 11-19-2012 08:16 PM

I bought a truck yesterday that I plan on reselling. 1987 f150 with a 302. Hasn't ran in about a year, but getting her going soon. Putting new spark plugs in tomorrow. Already got some interior stuff and new battery. Got a few more goodies too. It already has a good tool box and a KILLER sound system behind the seat. Oh, 2wd manual.

gunman41mag 11-19-2012 08:24 PM

I would change the oil:humm:

Truck Guy99 11-23-2012 03:57 PM

The oil was drained before it was parked. The last guy that owned added fresh stuff before selling it to me.
