The potential is mind blowing. For $10k, you can get 1000hp, as Hypermax used to say. They are a very prominent force in tractor pulls. The 89-92 is the 466 to get, but they didnt have a p-pump. That's easy to fix though. Stock headgasket & bolts can hold up to 100pounds of booost. Plus, the head fliws better than the Cummins B or C, in stock and ported.

You Sir, have my attention. What transmissions will they mate to?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- and what kind of prices are reasonable? |
You can score one from a truck for $15-2500.
They have mostly an SAE#2, and some have a #3. Many, many choices on transmissions with the sae#2. From a Clark 5spd to a fuller 13spd |
I bought a Military 5 ton truck w/ the Cummins 8.3 with less than 15k mi. I spent about $4k with transport and plan on parting out truck and keeping drive train. Everything is HD on military applications. No plastic tank radiators etc. Check out GovLiqiudation.com.

Peterbilt also did the 8.3L in their trucks.
My first Pete work truck had the 8.3 in it, cool motor. |
Case IH used a P pumped 8.3 from around 87 threw 2005

Well it's been a while since I visited this thread. I'm picking up a p pumped DT466 this weekend. I want to build a pulling truck. I can either stuff it in my 96 F350 crew cab or my 78 F250.
