Roof/Ceiling a/c units making a comeback?
Does anyone remember the old roof top mounted AC units that you used to find on tractors/swathers/loaders/etc back in the late '70's/early '80's? I am seeing something like them on quite a few medium duty delivery trucks lately. (Yes, it is on the roof of the cab, not on the front of the box...I know what a reefer unit looks like.)
Anyone know anything about them? I would like to check one out for my pickup conversion...if they work worth a pinch of anything. Thanks Offio |
Is it like an RV unit thsat runs on 110 :humm:

Like the below pic right?

HRD,
Yup, like that! The newer ones look a little lower profile, but it's gotta be the same concept...can't think what else it could be in that location. |

H.R.D.,
Yeah, I want to build (to my mind anyway) the ultimate hotshot rig, and I wanted one to put on it. Ran hotshot about 3 years ago with a 2nd gen Dodge Cummins 3500, and thought it sucked that everytime I hit a hill in the summer, I had to kill the AC and broil so the dang truck wouldn't overheat. I figure with a roof mount unit like that, it should be no problem to run the AC while pulling hard, since the condenser is not in front of the radiator. My idea for the truck is: 79 Ford F series cab and front clip. (front clip modded to tilt) Isuzu Medium duty frame (24 feet) Dana 80 rear 3 speed brownie 5 speed trans (NV4500) 6V-53T Detroit under the hood 48" sleeper Nice flatbed :c: ---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Lots of big rigs have satellite's on them so the company's can see where they are at all times. :c:
Yes they do. They are (to the best of my knowledge) round, and about 6 inches across. Generally mounted on top of or behind the sleeper or cab towards the top. |
