what you need to do is get an external hard drive. i have a 320GIG and it uses a USB cord and 110Vac so get one of those cheap power converters and have enough music to listen for a whole year..... you could always get a couple terabite units and be done with it......

Dont mean to hi-jack, but question on USB equipped head units: I just got me one myself, and I was wondering, do I have to use just my ipod, or can I do the hard drive thing as well that Ben spoke of? Is it a certain brand of player or anything with USB that will do this feat?

Benjamin 08-29-2007 07:59 PM

you should be able to use a USB thumb drive and the files must be in MP3 format IIRC..... so in theory you *should* be able to use a high capacity HD.....

Hmmmm I figured the same. Thing thats sucks is my computer is currently 2000 miles away with my music on it, so i suppose til i get back to it or get it to where i am, i will have to live with radio and buying CDs...

now i do know that either Comp USA, Fry's or any major computer store should be able to get you or should have in stock a hard drive adapter where you put a standard computer HD in it and it connects to whatever via USB. my dad uses one at his job as every year or so they upgrade comps and keep the old HD's for the info that is stored on them and this is his was of accessing them easily. i'll try to get you a link to what i'm talking about as some times you can get comp HD's cheap......

here is one.... it's like $10

here is the link to the site..... there are some great deals on hard drives there.....

i bought my 320GB HD from Fry's in Houston 2 years ago for $165 and i am thourally pleased. i've never bought a crap product from them.....

ive got a 60 gig external hd back in CA which would work perfect except its IEEE 1394 and not USB.... dammit.. oh well. tho it just about holds the 50 or so gigs of music i have... i may just break down and get me a 80 gig ipod, have all my music on it, and then room to spare...

who knows. it all is pending on if/when i go back home at this point. may just have my computer shipped out to me...

thats why i went with the kenwood. and i cant skip the cd off roading . unless i try.

also put a cd in . try to eject it, while it doesnt eject. try inserting a flat skinny object from center to the side. most unit have a little bar there. if youhit it. it might eject it. spent many hours trying to eject cds from ruined car stereos arter taking a trail a little too fast.
